I switched to Ubuntu recently due to my dissatisfaction over Windows. During the whole month of April, my computer reinstalled Windows XP 4 times due to trojans, Susan Boyle and Swine Flu. I had to reinstall the same drivers, the same Firefox, the same Torrent clients, re-download all my torrents and reschedule all my files, and i felt very angry over my Windows. I was patiently waiting for Windows 7, my computer crashed again the same day the Swine FLu outbreak went public. So in anger, i've decided to install Ubuntu.

I was quite skeptical of Linux distros. My first experience with Linux was through my Acer AspireOne laptop, and it was a giant piece of shit. Linpus Lite is probably the worst Linux OS ever made, and it was so bad i've decided to install Ubuntu on my Acer AspireOne. Ubuntu changed my whole perspective of computers. Using Ubuntu, i felt like using a cheaper, more cooler version of a Mac. i hate Macs, and using Ubuntu makes me feel like using a likable version of a Mac PC. And unlike Mac PCs where it's basically PC for pussies who can't use a proper computer, Ubuntu is for those who wants to have fun with their PCs without destroying it, unlike Microsoft's Windows.. Mixxx is basically a cooler and less pretentious version of Serato Scratch Live, while VLC Player, is the swan to an ugly duckling K-Lite Codec. And the best thing about Linux is the use of Virtualbox, where i can still use Windows XP while using Ubuntu. I tried Virtualbox on Macs and PCs, and they were shit. Running a Mac on Virtualbox while using Windows XP is like jerking off in an old folk's home, it's really unpleasant. Another thing about Ubuntu is the pleasantness of the terminal. Unlike most Linux terminals and Windows commands, Ubuntu's terminal seems pleasant, like sleeping at night while Portishead's music is being played. But the most important thing about Ubuntu is that: It balances your social life.

Remember those Mac vs. PC ads? Where the Mac is the cool extrovert, while the PC is the nerdy intovert? Well Ubuntu is the ambivert, having both awesome social skills of an extrovert and the geek and intellectual skills of an introvert. Ubuntu is like the intellectual professor who's also a clubber or a glowsticking raver. Ubuntu is the one with the intellectual IQ who doesn't yap about the ongoing dumbing down of society unlike most professors. Ubuntu is also quite simple at looking for software applications. I don't need to go round and round for my apps. I can just go to Applications and then press the Add/Remove program. This shows how much Ubuntu cares for its third-party developers. And what's better than Ubuntu is available for fellow Muslim brothers and Christians. And therefore while Christianity & Islam is at it's worst since 9/11, Ubuntu actually help make Christians & Muslims look cool again.

So where does this leads to? Well, the thing is using Ubuntu, it changed my life forever. I feel less stressful, more patient, and more concentrative compared to my time with Windows. When i went to the Ubuntu forums, i felt more welcomed and the forum is more pleasant with less trolls compared to most Mac and PC forums. And recently, Linux market share has risen to 1 % thanks to ubuntu, which proves that Linux is now a growing force in computers in 2009 the same way Mac was a growing force in 2002. And to all Mac and Windows user, i don't mind you still wanting to use Macs and Windows, and i still love Windows(which is why i'm using it on my Virtualbox). But be prepared for Linux to be a part of the mainstream Computer world. Embrace your new brother or die, as some old folk told me once.

THe swine flu & Susan Boyle: Proof that the media is bullshit

For the past 2 weeks, i get 2 stories that pissed me off: Susan Boyle and Swine Flu. Both are sensationalised like a coverage of the war or as if a porn had just won an Oscar.

First off, Susan Boyle. Now, i liked her voice. Yes, she maybe ugly but atleast she sings like an angel. Yes, she wowed douchebag Piers Morgan, bitchy Amanda Holden and shithead Simon Cowell. Yes she does. But why should the media care? Infact, ugly people had been singing for years, from Janis Joplin to Grace Jones to the Gallaghers, and yet the BBC & CNN says that "Susan Boyle proves that talent is better than looks", well fuck you.

And here's a reality check. By next month her 15 minutes of fame is over. Why? Because nobody will care. No record label is going to sign her up. And i haven't seen her Myspace Music profile yet. She will get a career at the Royal Opera House, which is good, but until she records a Trance anthem with Armin van Buuren, she will be gone to obscurity, and i support that because i don't want to see another Lily Allen or Amy Winehouse, singers with good voices ruined by celebrity status. Oh, and to those news reports about her "giving the comfort during the recession". Go fuck yourself! There are better ways of relief during this bullshit recession. Like masturbation, religious comfort, films and music. Heck, even last Saturday's Knight Castle is more a recession relief than Susan Boyle. And this is why the whole Susan Boyle coverage is nothing more than a giant piece of shit pooped out from the news.

And the second thing, the Swine Flu bullshit. Here's another fuck you to the media. Very few people know that on average 98 people die DAILY of Flu related reasons, and if you have a good immune system, you can survive flus of all kinds. And yet, the media creates an "EVERYONE PANIC!" as if it's the end of the world. Yeah, right. It's not a Biblical or a Quranic apocalypse nor an apocalypse of Scienctific reasoning, it's just a fucking flu. Swine flu is an influenza virus. It is not a bloody ebola. Millions of people die from the flu every year, most of them are either elderly, infirm, or very young (infants). People who are fit and generally in good health typically do not die from the flu. And why should non-Pork/bacon eaters care about the Swine Flu? Frat boy Americans kept on praising bacon like Gods and when they get the swine flu, good for them. Beef jerky and tabasco deserved more fame than Bacon. But i'm not criticisng pork eaters just because i'm a Muslim. If you eat pork, here's an optimistic message from the US Centre of Disease Control:

"You cannot get swine flu from eating pork or pork products. The CDC recommends cooking pork to an internal temperature of 160°F to kill the swine flu virus or other bacteria and viruses."

So yeah, it's not really that bad. Back in 2003, we Malaysians were sorrounded by Thais, Singaporeans & Indonesians suffering from SARS, and then Bird Flu came in 2005 the same time soulless TVB dramas popped up on Astro, and yet we're still okay, and Thailand & Singapore are now getting more tourists than before 2003, so FUCK THE MEDIA!

And to those visiting Ibiza, Spain during the summer this year, don't worry. The Swine Flu won't stop you from enjoying your nights in San Antonio. Just enjoy yourself, don't watch the news, keep your body healthy and during the night, drink all you want, sin all you want and pop some e as if nothing ever happened. And fuck the media.

I haven't updated my blog for 2 months, and therefore i'm 100% sure you wouldn't care. But today i want to talk about something that i've been wanting to say for months now. It's about Atheism post-2006, aka People who became Atheists because it was cool to poke fun at religion, as well as the popularity of books like "The God Delusion" & "God Is Not Great". What i want to say to these "Atheists" is simple:

SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Yup. That's it. I want to tell them to shut up. I've been taking shots at religious people for being irrrational and being represented by idiots like Abu Hamza, Kirk Cameron and recently, the Pope Benedict. But at the same time, i'm getting sick of Annoying Atheists. These folks just go around and take shots at religion just to make themselves look cool. They think everyone who follows a religion is stupid and irrational for believeing in a "sky God" or "fairy tales". Infact, they've dedicated everything just to shit on religion, by complaining about saying God's name in Obama's Inauguration, to creating Ads for Buses saying that there is no God:

Infact, i just want to ask: Why? What has religion done to you? Sure, religion has done alot of shitty thinggs but how does it affect you? And why should anyone care if someone believes in God? Why are you trying so hard to be as annoying as those raving Christian lunatics on TV? And yes, maybe religion is evil, but so is money, and greed. There is a thing called "necessary evil you know".

And yes, maybe people tend believe in a "sky God", but is God really a man in the Sky as the Christians say? There is more to God than just some bloke in the sky. There are many interpretations of God. Maybe God is the centre of the universe? Maybe God is some fat dude in his couch with a TV remote controlling the universe itself? Maybe God is a form of energy that Scientists are trying to control? Maybe God is a matter that we haven't explored yet? God is not some bloke in the sky. Carl Sagan gave an interesting view on God, and Niels Bohr believes that God does not play with dice. I'm a Muslim, and a non-religious one. But i believe in God because the idea of God is something we haven't explored, according to the Koran itself. And it's up to humans to either explore, worship or disprove.

And isn't there a saying : "Live and Let Live". I've been telling that to every fellow Muslim fanatic who burned the Norwegian Flag after the whole Muhammad cartoon Incident. I told that to every Christian who fears that Obama is the anti-Christ ever since his victory. Now i want to tell that to Atheists reading this: Live and Let Live. There are people who believes in God. Deal with it. You can convert 10 Christians into Atheists, but you will find 20 Atheists who suddenly rediscovers God after something spiritual happened to them. It's the cycle of life. And if you want to break that cycle just like what the radical Evangelists & PETA is doing right now, i won't stop you but you'll know that you will have to give up on it and accept other people for what they believe.

The current discrimination towards the gay community around most parts of the world is a disgusting and hateful form of intolerance. From the execution of two Iranian gays 8 years ago, to the murders of Lawrence King & Matthew Shepard and the creation of Proposition 8 in the US state of California, i have decided to speak out in defense of the gay community.

I am not gay. I am religious. I'm a Malaysian, and eventhough i'm a supporter of Barisan Nasional, i'm open minded and liberal. And I have something to say, both in my own defense and to the religious community that I am often thought to share offensive viewpoints with simply because I am a heterosexual, Muslim Malaysian.

I am suppose to be one of them; I was raised to be one of them. And, I have thought much about this issue. I am ashamed! I was taught to respect people who are different than I for whatever reason. I was taught that no one ever had the right to impose a religious belief upon another. That a mosque was meant to guide and teach you, but it could not, under any circumstances, coerce or impose its beliefs upon anyone. Not even my own religion has that right! I was raised to believe that the separation of church and state must never be bridged.

I was taught that the purpose of government was to establish ways for people to live together in peace. To make it possible for a wide variety of people with many different religions, customs, and beliefs to live and work together with respect for each other so that an economy could be established. That the state could never, ever, impose a religious belief unless the security and safety of that society and economy would clearly benefit.

We have here a group of people who have become an established segment of our community. A group of people who have the support of business as well as established religious organizations which support their rights, including the right to marry. Religious institutions which say they support gay marriage and wish to perform such ceremonies. Are we suppose to impose our religious beliefs upon them? If so, I don't want to hear any snivelling when another religion's beliefs are imposed upon yours. The separation of church and state must not be circumvented! Not even by vote, but most certainly not by a vote which is based upon religious beliefs which have no clear benefit to the state! Indeed, the state is harmed by this as all it does is cause misery and harm to a large minority segment of its own citizenry. This is the perversion!

Or, am I just suppose to ignore those people, those companies, those religious institutions? As if they don't count? I will not be a part of this!

My Form 5 History teacher taught me about separation of church and state. And she taught me that as a citizen, it was my duty as a Muslim to find ways to work with people who are different than I, independent of my religious beliefs (except that I, myself, must live by them) in a manner which is courteous, respectful, and promoted peace. As a citizen of Malaysia, I was to conduct myself in a way that best promoted the welfare of my state and federal government with respect toward all the citizens in it. We were to live our Malaysian beliefs ourselves, but we weren't suppose to shove those beliefs down another's throat, nor to coerce anyone into living them, nor to impose those beliefs on anyone! Shame on you!

They also taught me that Allah s.w.t. (God) made me, just the way I am. They told me that God loves me just the way I am. They told me that this was true of every single person in this world, even those who were different than I, even those who didn't believe in God at all. They told me that God is compassionate, merciful, and that all love comes from God. That He wanted us to do our best to be like Him. To try and do what He would want. To forgive others the way we want Him to forgive us. To not judge others. To love one another.

I don't see my mosque acting the way they told me to. I know homosexuality is a sin. I know what the Koran says. I'm missing something, clearly. But I have friends who are gay. They are good people and I will not condemn them. That's between them and God. I believe in a merciful God and I will trust Him to know what He's doing because He made them, too, just the way they are and I figure that's how He loves them.

I don't know why my religion is becoming one of intolerance and hate. Or being represented so. I don't know why gay people are having to bear this. I just know: I don't want to be a part of it. And I don't want people to think that just because I am a heterosexual Muslim, that I support what is being done to our gay community in any way at all. And I beg everyone, please reconsider what you are doing.

To the gay community: I am very ashamed. I am sorry from the bottom of my heart.

5 Reasons why Twilight's popularity sucks ass:

Come 26th of November, a movie based on a best-selling book called "Twilight" will be released to the world, causing girls aged 5 to 20 to be turned into mindless who would cannibalise anyone who hates Twilight (the same way the Jonas Brothers zombies had cannibalised every single non-Jonas Brothers fan).

Twilight is about a girl who falls in love with a vampire. Typically cliche. To be honest, i liked it. It's a good book. I liked the story, and the developing romance between Bella and Edward. However, it's overrated and should not deserve the fame it has right now. Here are 5 reasons why Twilight is overrated:

5.Edward is not a vampire. He's just a perfect pretty kid.

To be honest, whenever i think of a vampire, i think of Bela Lugosi scaring the shit out of me when i was kid, or the vamps from I am Legend creeping a post-apocalyptic New York at night. Edward is none of that. He roams the daylight, is a vegetarian, and he is described as the perfect guy for girls. This is bollocks, absolute bollocks really.

Stephanie Meyer should have a made Edward a mutant or a new genetic human caused by a scientific error, but making him a vampire with no characteristic of a vampire is a disgrace to vampires everywhere. Good-looking vampires like Dracula has imperfections that makes women hate him, while ugly vampires like Nosferatu has the ability to make women to feel sorry for him.

Okay, so i know that horror creatures need a 21-st century upgrade, but the core values should not be changed. Simon Pegg was right when he said that zombies makes no sense if they're running. And that goes the same with vampires. They should never roam the daylight. Do you want Godzilla to look like Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl?

4.It should not be compared to Harry Potter.

The other day I heard on the news "The best book since that one about the boy wizard named...what was his name again?"

These books are in no way comparable to Harry Potter. For two reasons.

Firstly, Harry Potter is a brilliantly written book. Twilight is not as well-written as Harry Potter. The Harry Potter books contains characters with imperfections, which gives it a sense of realism, unlike Twilight where everyone is a perfect douche.

Secondly, these books do not appeal to the masses. If you're not a gay guy or 13-17 year old girl, you most likely will not be interested. I know people from the ages of 6-73 who love Harry Potter, because the books are great on many different levels. The Harry Potter books are as brilliant as books like Lord of the Rings, The Dark Tower and graphic novels like Watchmen. There is no way that Twilight can be as good as Lord of the Rings. NO FREAKING WAY!

3.It's being treated as a teeny bop sensation rather than a book.

When i read a book, i read it as a book, i treat it like a book, and i understand it like a book. I don't treat it as a big sensation. I just treat it like a book, the same way i treat song like a song, a movie like a movie, and a rave party like a rave party. And the reason why Twilight is in my LibraryThing collection, because i treat it like a book, and nothing else.

When i see Twilight being treated as a teeny bop obsession, i was filled with disgrace that a book was treated like the Jonas Brothers. It's just wrong. A book's popularity should have some class, and anything that is treated like an obsession by teeny boppers lacks any class whatsoever. Twilight should deserve some respect, the same way the Koran, Harry Potter and American Psycho does. Heck, even Gossip Girl has more class than Twilight.

When the band Hanson was the tween sensation back in the late 90's, they did something really incredible: In 2000, they say to the world "Fuck you teeny boppers, we're going indie!" It was one of the bravest things they have ever done. The Jonas Brothers will do the same thing in the next few years, and in the next decade, when Stephanie Meyer released her new book "Afternoon", she will say to the world "Fuck these Teenyboppers, these so-called Twilight fans are a disgrace to my books, and in this time i'll make Edward as ugly as Nosferatu. You'll see"

Come on. I've made it through Bridges of Madison Country. I trundled through my fair share of bodice rippers. I read Mercedes Lackey, Preston & Child, and good ol' RL Stine for my caloric trash intake. This? This is really, really bad - when you realize how slimly made the main character is, you see that it is the most obvious commercial Mary Sue pandering yet. If you enjoy the books, okay, fine, everyone has their rights. I enjoyed it too, but with a writing like that it should not be popular in the first place.

10 Dumb Things i've learned in the US Presidential Elections of 2008

Tonight, after hours of studying & preparing (kinda) for SPM, i've decided to step away from my books and give focus to the biggest attention of all: The US Presidential Elections of 2008.

You see, i've been an avid fan of US politics since 2000. Why? Because like almost none of you, i used to watch CNN(before BBC World & Al-Jazeera), and ever since i started watching CNN like in the age of seven, i've been glued to US politics ever since. When the 2000 Elections kept showing on not just CNN but also TV3 & RTM, i was glued all day just to see the campaigning between Bush & Gore. And here's a sad thing: I supported Bush back in 2000. Sut still, i was a kid.

And when 9/11 came, i was saddened and worse, shocked when i see all my fellow Muslim friends & even family members cheering the fall of the WTC. I was sickened to see that people are cheering the day 3000 people died. Thankfully, people moved on and it was until the day Bush said "Saddam has WMDs in Iraq" that i've diced to oppose Bush to the fullest.

Now, it's 2008 and thankfully, by 2009 the Bush legacy has come to a close. But sadly, the Bush legacy may continue thanks to people like John McCain & Sarah Palin. I endorse either Barack Obama or Ron Paul, and i'm filled with optimism that Barack Obama will improve alot of things wrong about the US and how the US has pissed on the rest of the world, especially on the Muslim world.

What i've noticed about this election, is that for the past 21 months, it has the most sleaziest campaigning in history, and it's so sleazy that it has gotten hilariously dumb. From socialist Muslim calling to Joe the Plumber, i've decided to list down 10 really dumb things about thie election:

1.If you're a member of a White-hating Christ Church, you're definitely a Muslim

You know, the funniest thing about this election, is how people kept calling Barack Obama a Muslim. Now, as a Muslim, i don't find it ofensive, i find it hilarious! Seriously, Barack Obama is a member of the Trinity Church of Christ, whose leader Jeremiah Wright said this:

And that was like during February. And even after the whole Jeremiah Wright fiasco, people are still calling Barack Obama a Muslim:

Republicans still astounds me with their stupidity.

2.A McCain endorsement from "Joe the Plumber" is way awesome than an Obama endorsement from 76 Nobel laureates

Joe the Plumber is not a real plumber, and Joe isn't his first name neither(It's Samuel Joe Wuzelbaucher), but McCain doesn't really give a shit. He used Joe the Plumber as a powerful attack against Obama. John McCain thinks that an endorsement from "Joe the Plumber" will make him have a strong lead in the elections, but Obama's endorsements are way better: He has 76 Nobel Laureates endorsing him! But hey, Mr. Plumber here is a better unique selling point than a bunch of elitist Nobel laureates right?

3.Having the ability to see Russia from your house makes you an expert on foreign politics.

Sarah Palin, the super hot but equally dumb Vice Presidential candidate says that she has foreign policy experience because she lives in Russia, and she can see Russia from her house!

Which kinda surprises me because i didn't know that geography determines your expertise. If having the ability to see a neighbouring country makes you a foreign policy expert, therefore all Singaporeans are experts on Malaysia. Therefore, if i want to get an opinion on Malaysian politics, don't bother reading a Raja Petra Kamaruddin post. Juat ask a Singaporean.

4.The Flaws of Electronic Voting Machines makes me proud to live in a country that still practices Ballot Paper Democracy!

Back in 2000, when the Electronic Voting Machines were introduced in the US, many people around the world responded by saying "Woah, that looks cool man!".

Sadly, the Electronic Voting Machines were so flawed that the whole of Florida got fucked for a month after the elections. Numerous recounts which were cancelled over and over causes the winner goes to....George W. Bush.

And after 8 years, i kept wondering: Why are they still using these fucking useless machines? Heck, even Al-Jazeera made a report about this:

And it kept me thinking: Hey, thank god Malaysia's still using an effective voting system consisting of only paper ballots. Seriously, i mean you just cross your choice on the paper, put it inside the ballot box and wallah, it works! And if the opposition can get the 2/3ds Majority seat this year, then that is the reason why the paper-ballot system is still working till today. The teen pregnancy sensation occuring in the Gen-Y universe is really disturbing. I as a Gen-Y teenager is shocked to see the amount of stupidity fellow teenagers are getting pregnant day-by-day, country-by-country.

But what's way dumber is how you can cover-up the pregnancy of your own daughter by forcing her to marry the guy who knocked her up. Take Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin's hot daughter. She got knocked up by a guy named Levi Johnson. NOTE: A Teen Pregnancy Case would ruin a political career, but Sarah Palin has a better idea: Force Bristol to marry Levi. Yeah, good job covering it all up. A teen pregnancy is still a teen pregnancy. No matter how much you're trying to make a positive outlook on it, it would still make you a bad mother. "But she took abstinence class!' Yeah, as if abstinence works!

It was soon revealed to be a hoax, and then McCain's poll rating gone lower because of this stupid scam. However, Of all the stupid things that are wrong with that Ashley Todd scam, this is the one that we just can't get our heads around. Why not an O? It's immediate. It's easy to carve. And you can't do it effing backwards! If it had been an O, we predict that story would have stayed alive through the whole weekend. Instead, they picked it apart within 18 hours. Crazy is one thing, but crazy and stupid? That's just bad politics.

9.Taking money from greedy people and spreading it to the poor makes you a socialist.

If being called an elitist & a Muslim isn't enough, now Obama's being called a SOCIALIST! Why? Because he wants to tax the rich, support unions & spread wealth to poor people. Which kinda reminds me, does John McCain know anything about economics? The difference between socialism & Obama's "spreading the wealth"-esque welfare? Well, to answer that: No.

10.French Canadians are now cool!

A comedy duo from Montreal pranked Sarah Palin by pretending to be the President of France Nicolas Sarkozy. Marc-Antoine Audette, one half of the duo, called from radio station CKOI and got through to Palin after trying for days. During the 6-minute conversation, Marc dropped a ton of hints that she was being punk'd. He told Sarah that he loves hunting and killing animals is fun! He also used fake names for Canadian politicians. He also told her that his wife Carla Bruni was "good in bed" and had written a song about Joe the Plumber. He even sang a few notes and Palin still stayed on the line. This would be so much better if furry puppets were re-enacting the phone call. I'm sure someone's going to make that happen. You know that by the end of the day, there will be hundreds of "dramatizations" of this shit!

Why Americans hate "electronic music"

If there's something you don't like about America(besides Iraq, Afghanistan, Israeli support & its hatred of soccer), is the fact that they hated electronic music. And it's very obvious. If you compared rock music of America with rock music from the UK, American rock music comprises only of guitars, drums & a vocalist, with the exceptions bands like Slipknot & Nine Inch Nails which totally endorses every electronic instruments. But in the UK, British rock music fully endorses electronic materials, starting from the birth of synthesizers, to the acid house drum machines & computers.

And here's another comparison: Give an American teenager a song from Tiesto or Sasha, and a reply would rather be like "Fuck this techno sounding shit". But give the same song to a Brit, and he'll reply "Woah mate, this is MASSIVE!"

So yeah, there is a difference in use of electronic music in both US & UK. But why? Why does Americans hate "techno? Why don't the majority of US rock bands use electronic instruments while the UK ones endorsed it?

Well, i've once tried to get some answers from folks at LowYat.net forums and there's no clear answer to it. But there is alot of reasons why. It all starts with "the soccer problem". America is the only nation that doesn't care about football aka soccer. Even if the US hosted the 1994 World Cup, America still doesn't give a shit. Why? Because football is not easy to follow. Baseball, American football and basketball have long since put down deep roots, claimed particular seasons of the year as their own (although they now overlap) and gained the allegiance of the sports-following public. One in particular of those three sports - basketball - poses a singular obstacle to the national acceptance of football. The two are too similar for them both to succeed. Each belongs to the family of games whose object is to put a ball (or similar object) in a goal. Because the two games are similar, they have the same kind of appeal. Both are easy to follow; you can immediately understand the point of each one. The rules and strategies of cricket, baseball, rugby and American football, by contrast, are less straightforward. The action of a basketball game and of a football match are easier to follow than that of other team sports as well because the ball is larger than in cricket and baseball and is never hidden in a tangle of bodies or a scrum, as it is in American football and rugby. And the same applies to electronic music. Rock music like Nirvana and ugh, the Jonas Brothers is easy to listen to, while trance, techno & House requires some melody, repetition & tranquility, three elements that is rare in American music culture.

The second reason is the disco-bashing culture. Americans, especially those folks outside Chicago & NY that hates disco. And it's true. There was a "Disco Sucks" movements which has faded the popularity of many disco entertainers like Larry Levan & Donna Summer. Why? Because disco is loved by the black, European, Asian & gay community, and these communities were despised by middle America. Also, blame it on the US radio conglomerates (Clear Channel, for example) that own and program almost ALL of the radio stations in the US. They don't play dance stuff anymore--except on certain Saturday night programs where they try to give a taste of club sounds to the folks at home or in their cars goin' to the clubs. So when an American listens to some nice house tracks from Hed Kandi or Pete Tong or David Guetta, there's a definitive chance that they'll hate it, since house was evolved from disco.

Another reason is because Americans are not raised with electronic music. If you look at the UK, they are completely raised with the electronic music culture. Shows like Doctor Who & Blake's 7 contains true electronic music soundtracks & theme songs, thanks to a lady named Delia Derbyshire(and using synthesizers are way cheaper than an fully-conducted orchestra). Britain introduced the world to synthesizers through musicians like Brian Eno. And when house DJs like Marshall Jefferson played at London & Manchester clubs, the British quickly endorsed the music, way faster than the Americans. Why? All thanks to Doctor Who & Brian Eno, since many Chicago house musicians used the same equipments by those in British electronic music. Only a small fraction of Americans were raised through electronic music, and this is because that they were either influenced by Doctor Who, or if they've grown up with synthesizers, drum machines & turntables. And it's kinda true. Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails admitted to liking Brian Eno, the Sex Pistols & Doctor Who, and so was Slipknot, Madonna and DJ BT.

I also find that Americans don't get used to a DJ or a synthesizer/drum machine player just standing there playing music & not moving his legs. If you compare a rave party hosted by Armin Van Buuren to a Miley Cyrus concert, many would rather go to a Miley Cyrus concert, because they liked to see a performer dancing & movies his/her legs. And most Americans can't dance, so they would rather see the singer & performer dancing rather than themselves.

And another reason is because of snobbery. Corporate snobbery. Corporate radio like Clear Channel despised disco & other forms of dance music because they believe it won't sell(The "Always Judge a Book by its Cover" mentality). And Gibson, a guitar company is one of the most popular guitar brands in the US, and they also the most snobbish. They quickly despised synthesizers & turntables, saying that both are "not real instruments". And since many American bands used Gibson guitars, many of them joined the bandwagon of hating Djs & synthesizer players. And that's a snobbish attitude presented in corporate America.

So how will Americans get into the electronic music thingy? Well, there's still some hope. In the late 90's, the Big Beat house movement comprising of DJs like Chemical Brothers, Junkie XL, Fatboy Slim & bands like Prodigy became totally popular, and influenced non-electronic bands like New Radicals, Linkin Park & Crazy Town. And this movement was popular due to its use of joining together guitars & DJing, as well as the rebirth of liberalisation thanks to Clinton & the Cool Britannia movement which exports Fatboy Slim & Paul Oakenfold to the US. And this is what America needs: Another electronic movement similar to the Big Beat movement. And it could be very possible. A new breed of electronic-oriented bands & DJs from the US, Australia & UK in the likes of Justice, Cobra Starship, Hot Chip, MGMT, Pendulum & Bloc Party are making waves in America, and this proves that electronic music is making a comeback to the US. So there is hope.

The National Fatwa Council deserves a facepalm

The National Fatwa Council will be issuing a ruling soon relating to yoga exercise, which is deemed to be deviationist in nature for the Muslims.

An announcement on the matter is expected to be made soon by the fatwa council's chairperson Prof Dr Abdul Shukor Husin.

This was revealed by the deputy director-general of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) Othman Mustapha, reported Bernama today.

Yesterday, UKM lecturer Prof Zakaria Stapa advised Muslims who have taken up yoga - a widely popular exercise which has its roots to India and Hinduism - to stop practising it for fear that it could deviate them from their belief.

"Yoga originated from the Hindu community and it combines spiritual as well as their religious aspects. They believe it brings them closer to their god," he was reported as saying in Berita Harian today.

Zakaria was reported to have said that more Muslims were resorting to yoga exercise to find a balance in their hectic lifestyle.

He added that they should instead apply the Islamic teachings such as prayers to find peace and good health.

"If the Muslims want a healthy body, prayers are the right choice... why must we find alternate ways... a single mistake can deviate our teachings as yoga movements follow the style and tradition of Hinduism," he was reported as saying.

Ban on tomboys

The perils of yoga to the Muslims is learnt to have been discussed at the recently held fatwa council meeting in Kota Baru, Kelantan.

At the fatwa council meeting, the religious scholars have also decided to issue a fatwa against females from dressing or behaving like men and engaging in lesbian sex.

Council chairperson Abdul Shukor had said that many young women admired the way men dress, behave and socialise, violating human nature and denying their feminity.

"It is unacceptable to see women who love the male lifestyle including dressing in the clothes men wear," Abdul Shukor was quoted as saying.

Idiocracy is coming. If the council really cares about guarding the sanctity of Islamic teachings and values, they should really go around and see what is really happening for themselves. Hari ini saya ingin menulis dalam Bahasa Melayu, kerana saya ingin mebuat satu telolz untuk makan hari ini.

Kita biasa dengar tentang meringkaskan karangan. Begitu juga membuat karangan. Tetapi pernahkah anda mendengar ataupun membaca satu karangan yang dipanggil sebagai karangan melampau? Karangan ini ditulis dengan begitu kejam sekali sehingga orang yang membacanya sukar untuk membayangkan sesuatu keadaan yang cuba digambarkan. Sebagai contoh disertakan karangan tersebut di bawah yang bertajuk

’KEMALANGAN YANG PALING NGERI YANG PERNAH SAYA LIHAT'
Pagi itu pagi minggu. Cuaca cukup sejuk sehingga mencapai takat suhu beku. Sebab itu saya tidak mandi pagi sebab air kolah jadi air batu dan air paip tidak mahu keluar sebab beku di dalam batang paip.Pagi itu saya bersarapan dengan keluarga di dalam unggun api kerana tidak tahan sejuk. Selepas itu emak saya mengajak saya menemaninya ke pasar. Tetapi saya tidak mahu. Selepas emak menikam perut saya berkali-kali dengan garfu barulah saya bersetuju untuk mengikutnya. Kami berjalan sejauh 120 kilometer kerana pasar itu letaknya 128 kilometer dari rumah. Lagi 8 kilometer nak sampai pasar saya ternampak sebuah lori kontena meluru dengan laju dari arah belakang. Dia melanggar emak saya. Emak saya tercampak ke dalam gaung. Dia menjerit ”Adoi!”. Lepas itu emak saya naik semula dan mengejar lori tersebut. Saya pun turut berlari di belakang emak saya kerana takut emak saya melanggar lori itu pula. Pemandu lori itu nampak kami mengejarnya. Dia pun memecut lebih laju iaitu sama dengan kelajuan cahaya.

Kami pula terpaksa mengejar dengan lebih laju iaitu sama dengan dua kali ganda kelajuan cahaya. Emak saya dapat menerajang tayar depan lori itu. Lori itu terbabas dan melanggar pembahagi jalan lalu bertembung dengan sebuah feri. Feri itu terbelah dua. Penumpang feri itu yang seramai 100 orang semuanya mati. Pemandu feri itu sangat marah. Dia pun bertukar menjadi Ultraman dan memfire pemandu lori. Pemandu lori menekan butang khas di dalam lori dia..lori itu bertukar menjadi robot Transformer. Mereka bergaduh di udara. Emak saya tidak puas hati. Dia pun terus menyewa sebuah helikopter di Genting Highlands dan terus ke tempat kemalangan. Dia melanggar pemandu feri yang telah bertukar menjadi Ultraman itu. Pemandu feri itu terkejut dan terus bertukar menjadi pemandu feri semula lalu terhempas ke jalanraya. Pemandu feri itu pecah. Pemandu lori sangat takut melihat kejadian itu. Dia meminta maaf dari emak saya. Dia menghulurkan tangan ingin bersalam. Tetapi emak saya masih marah. Dia menyendengkan helikopternya dan mengerat tangan pemandu lori itu dengan kipas helikopter. Pemandu lori itu menjerit ”Adoi..!” dan jatuh ke bumi. Emak say menghantar helikopter itu ke Genting Highlands. Bila dia balik ke tempat kejadian, dia terus memukul pemandu lori itu dengan beg tangannya sambil memarahi pemandu lori itu di dalam bahasa Inggeris. Pemandu lori itu tidak dapat menjawab sebab emak saya cakap orang putih. Lalu pemandu lori itu mati.

Tidak lama kemudian kereta polis pun sampai. Dia membuat lapuran ke ibu pejabatnya tentang kemalangan ngeri itu. Semua anggota polis di pejabat polis itu terperanjat lalu mati. Orang ramai mengerumuni tempat kejadian kerana ingin mengetahui apa yang telah terjadi. Polis yang bertugas cuba menyuraikan orang ramai lalu dia menjerit menggunakan pembesar suara. Orang ramai terperanjat dan semuanya mati. Selepas itu emak saya mengajak saya ke pasar untuk mengelak lebih ramai lagi yang akan mati. Di pasar, emak saya menceritakan kejadian itu kepada penjual daging. Penjual daging dan peniaga-peniaga berhampiran yang mendengar cerita itu semuanya terkejut dan mati. Saya dan emak saya terus berlari balik ke rumah. Kerana terlalu penat sebaik saja sampai di rumah kami pun mati. Itulah kemalangan yang paling ngeri yang pernah saya lihat sebelum saya mati.

While Hollywood, Hong Kong & The Music of Britain(The MOB) keeps on releasing crap, these two knows how to make their fans look crappier than the crap they're listening two. Here are some 5 bands whose fans i'd like to punch at:

5.The Fray

Music: Sleepy indie music made irritating by mainstream media & Grey's Anatomy. "How to Save A Life" created a new form of torture used in Guantanamo Bay: Irritating Sleep Torture, currently being used in Guantanamo Bay & Kamunting, Perak.

Fans: Anyone who watches Grey's AnatomY. As much as i hate that show, i hate any GAY(Grey's AnatomY) fan who has "How to Save A Life" on their iPods. This song should have been made by Brian Eno and be used for the soundtrack to a Bruce Lee film, not by a bunch of Colorado kids whose song has been used in a shitty overrated drama series.

Better alternative: Radiohead, Brian Eno, Coldplay & any sound that is made by scratching your balls.

4.The Klaxons

Music: Crappy indie music which is considered by the NME as "Nu Rave", eventhough it doesn't sound like rave music at all.

Fans: "Nu Ravers", aka C U N T S. These guys wear shiny rainbow hoodies from Topman and has the personality of bad British yob tourists. They go to Klaxon concerts aka "Nu Raves" where the only sign of a "rave" is basically lots of glowstix and less pops of "e". Actually, to be more clear, a "rave" basically consists of youths like me going to MOS and Global Gathering or even islands like Ibiza where we basically pop Es, watch some glowstick dances and shuffles, and sleep in the middle of the road at night. If anyone calls themselves a "nu raver", i will punch their face, and take a knife and cut off their balls(which is the only good thing about knife crime).

Better alternative: Hadouken, Hot Chip, Nine Inch Nails or any acid house/hard rock fusion bands like New Order or Happy Mondays.

3.The Jonas Brothers

Music: Here's a word: Disney. Therefore, it's basically a boyband trio disguised as a "rock band". If you heard songs like "Mandy" or "SOS" right now in the radio, turn it off, NOW!

Fans: Two words: teenage girls. And since most teenage girls are Jonas Brothers fans, here are some "quotes":

Let's Stop Scaring Our Kids, says New York author

It's 7:35 on the Today show-the time reserved for big, national stories. (George Clooney isn't scheduled till later.) Ann Curry is speaking directly to the camera, her face friendly but concerned because her next guest just may be insane. "So," she asks her six million viewers, "is she an enlightened mom or a really bad one?"

The shot widens to reveal … me.

My son, Izzy, is by my side, stuffed with NBC's free cookies, both of us here because I'd recently left him, deliberately, in the first-floor handbag department of the Manhattan Bloomingdale's.

He was nine and had been begging me to please let him find his way home from someplace-anyplace-on the subway, by himself. After all, we live in New York City, and getting around by public transit is a basic part of life, like yelling at cabbies in the crosswalk. It's also a rite of passage, the first step toward feeling grown-up. So on that sunny Sunday, I gave him a subway map, a transit card, $20 for emergencies, and a couple of quarters in case he had to call me. (No, no cell phone. Nine-year-olds lose things.)

Despite a tiny twinge, however, I had no intention of losing him. New York today is as safe as it was in 1963, making it almost embarrassingly ungritty-but reassuring. So I waved goodbye and left in the other direction. After 45 minutes, he arrived home, far more tickled than your average commuter.

A few days later, I wrote about his adventure, or nonadventure, for my paper, the New York Sun. Little did I realize this would be the Subway Ride Heard Round the World.

Somehow the idea that a kid could navigate the city on his own, and that a mom would let him, was big news. Huge! It turned out the Today show interview was just the first of the day. After I dropped Izzy off at school, I sped up to MSNBC to talk about his ride again. When Fox News called, I turned around and grabbed him back out of school, and off we zoomed to Neil Cavuto. The segment got more feedback than the Bear Stearns bailout hearing.

Pretty soon, NPR was calling. Newsweek. The BBC. Malta. Bloggers were going crazy, so I started a blog, too, Free Range Kids, and letters came pouring in: "Bravo!" vs. "Why didn't child services come to your door?" Then came a call from the South China Morning Post: Izzy's story was perfect for Asia.

"But why?" I asked the reporter. "Isn't everyone there, like, outside together, riding bikes? Sort of the opposite of New York?"

Biking or not, she said, the people in China are much more fearful these days. They don't trust their neighbors the way they used to. They don't let their kids out as much. And that's when I finally realized why this was such a big story: Worldwide, we have become terrified for our children.

The things we did as kids without thinking twice-walking to a friend's house, playing in the park, staying out till the streetlights came on-have somehow morphed into acts of daring on a par with shark hunting in a hamburger suit.

One dad I spoke to won't allow his eight-year-old to play in his own driveway. Another suburban dad "lets" his 12-year-old walk the single block to her friend's house, so long as she calls him the second she arrives.

Even my best friend confided that when she and her own 12-year-old split up at the mall for the few minutes it takes to grab food from separate food-court restaurants, she's "nervous the whole time." My friend was a Harvard math major, so she is perfectly aware of probability and statistics and that the odds of anything bad happening to her daughter are tiny.

Doesn't matter. "I'm comfortable being nervous," she said.

Fear is hardly a new parental emotion, of course. It has kept us Homo sapiens cleverly running and hiding for millennia, and I certainly have my share of it ("Stop! That stick is way too short for toasting your marshmallow!"). But the fear of letting our children out of sight for even a second-that's new. And it feeds not only on legitimate angst but also on a steady diet of peer pressure. "Powerful cultural pressures incite parents to regard every childhood experience from the standpoint of the worst possible outcome," says Paranoid Parenting author Frank Furedi. "To do otherwise is to be seen as an 'irresponsible parent.'"

And so I receive an e-mail about a father who's contemplating following his daughter's field trip to make sure she's safe, even as a mom in an upscale Atlanta community admits that she won't let her daughter go to the mailbox alone because in her quiet suburban neighborhood, there would be no witnesses if someone were to snatch her daughter.

The upshot: Drive through most suburban streets and it's as if the kids have been vacuumed up with the lawn trimmings. How did this happen? How did it become too scary to let kids be kids?

"TV," says Trevor Butterworth, an editor at the media watchdog group stats.org. "Cable TV exists to scare the pants off you." That's how it gets you to stay tuned. And what is scarier than a kidnapped kid-no matter how far away?

Thanks to a steady stream of those stories, it starts to feel as if kidnappings are happening all the time, on a Schwinn near you. But they're not, says David Finkelhor, director of the Crimes Against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire. "Crimes against kids are down to levels we haven't seen since the early '70s."

"'Stranger danger' cases are the ones that make the big headlines," says Corwin Ritchie, executive director of the Iowa County Attorneys Association. "But that's not the typical child-abuse case. The typical case involves an acquaintance of the child."

The fact is, children are 40 times more likely to die in a car accident, and that doesn't stop us from driving them to karate. Car accidents, after all, are still considered exactly that-accidents. But we blame parents, the way we used to blame rape victims, for "letting" anything happen to their children. If tragedy ever befell our child, we wouldn't just be heartbroken. We all know we'd be there on CNN with a pseudo- sympathetic host asking, "Why? Why did you let her scooter to her piano lesson?" And then they'd cut to a commercial to build the tension.

That's why the kid-on-the-subway story struck people so profoundly. Here was a mom on TV saying what a million other newscasts never do: Kids can leave the home without a police detail and survive!

Izzy probably put it best. Like all of us who'd grown up with the freedom to play tag, fall off the monkey bars, and chase the mosquito spray truck, he didn't think it was a big deal. "It was fun," he said. Plus, being on national TV meant that he missed math class. Sometimes it really pays to be brave.

Social networking sites come and go. Facebook may be the next victim, but currently i'm quite satisfied with Facebook. Ever since i started joining the social networking bandwagon with Friendster in 2003, it changed the way i view the Internet forever. I became addicted to Friendster, because of how it's more interactive than ICQ.

Then Myspace arrived. As i started my Cempaka years at Form 2, i've decided to check upon Myspace, because morons like fellow classmate Aina Syahirah told me to. Upon signing up on Myspace, i've realised that i've joined a site that will give me eyesores for the next 3 years.

I started using Myspace due to the hype that surrounds it. Unlike Friendster, you can add "things" into your profile. And by things i meant by crappy pop music, asinine backgrounds, lame music videos and torturous CSS programs. And as a result, these "things" have slowed down my computer's hard drive & Internet bandwidth. Therefore, i've decided to stay loyal with Friendster, because atleast Friendster is more simple and faster than Myspace.

But i still kept my Myspace profile. Why? Because i usually access alot of musicians through Myspace. But as time goes by, the Myspace experience will bore me to death like a bad Nicolas Cage movie. While i have 300+ friends on Friendster, i only have 53 friends on Myspace, and that's because i'm too lazy to surf on Myspace. And it gets worse with the recent security incodents, bad press (tonight at 11, myspace dangers) targering paranoid parents, spam background , teenage following, and theories about being the primary traffic source of YouTube. These creepy stories kept me turned off by Myspace.

And it gets sadder for Friendster too. They are trying too hard to compete against Myspace, that they are copying everything Myspace has done by adding CSS options, and it gets me more pissed off on Friendster. It's kinda sad that your favourite networking site is trying to be the networking you loate all day long.

And let's not forget the Myspace Angle. Douchebags and Bitches who pose on their profiles looking like complete dicks of themselves. I don't have the looks for a Myspace Angle, and neither 70% of Myspace users. But these 70% of users are the ones who do the angle, and i always cringe when i look at them. If i want to pose myself on a Myspace profile, i'll just stick to a photoshop of Rooney sucking Ronaldo's dick.

And when 2008 arrived, came Facebook. While Myspace is still suffering from problems, and Friendster has totally become a 100% Myspace wannabe, i've decided to switch to Facebook. And thank god i've did the right decision, because Facebook is what i've dreamt of: simple & non-pretentious. No useless CSS bacgrounds, no annoying music players & no crappy profile photos. I'm happy with Facebook, for now. While Myspace is losing popularity and is now becoming more corporate, let's hope that the beloved Facebook won't suffer the same fate for years to come.

And if you're still using Myspace, then may God save your soul.

So we all heard that McCain spit that gum ball out of his mouth to announce Sarah Palin as his running mate. Talk about gimmicks. This was clearly done to try and steal the disgruntled Hillary fans (Jeannie??).

Man, if somehow George McCain (intentional) is elected, God forbid anything happen to the geezer. If he kicks the bucket we are going to have a Polar Bear-hating former beauty queen Vice President. Hopefully, she doesn’t speak like another former beauty queen.

Formed in 2000, Hot Chip comprised of 5 men. The Politics Of Fear... Not A Monopoly In Malaysia

I was at Bukit Merah for a break with the family and on my wife's prompting, we took a detour north to see how things were at Permatang Pauh over the by-election campaign weekend. This write-up is not so much about what we saw, but more about the emotive elements that I have been observing over this by-election, which I am concerned may be symptomatic.

The idea of us at least doing a drive-through of Permatang Pauh over the school break was not really new. I had an open invitation by an UMNO Ketua Pemuda to join him on campaign and I was 'made aware' of KuLi's visit on Saturday. However, each invitation was laced with a cautionary notes such as:

1.
Don't bring your car, or at least bring your old Waja, not your MPV, as hooligans have been throwing stones and scratching cars of BN campaigners.

2.
It may not be safe for you to bring your family along on the visit, even if you are just passing through.

3.
We are staying at so and so place, and you're welcomed to bunk in with us. All the hotels are booked up. If you wish to just 'tumpang', watch out where you go. Some mosques may be full of the hooligans camping out.

4.
Your sure you really want to go ka? Is it worth the trouble you may get into there? Consider this carefully before you go...

It used to be that UMNO internal elections were more viscious than Parliamentary ones, and it hardly ever got physical, but supposedly things have changed. I thought this was all a load of crock as I had fond memories of joining election campaigns even when I was a child, so we went to Permatang Pauh anyway.

What greeted us was very much what I expected, a massive poster war going on, campaigners milling about, especially in local gathering spots like Kedai Kopi's, and local folk, trying to live their normal lives through the greater excitement. There did not appear to be any outwardly menacing indicators, other than the rather aggressive, and in some cases, excesively negative campaign materiel.

Nevertheless...

Our son needed the toilet and we stopped at a kedai kopi along a road that dead-ended at a Malay kampung. The area was clearly PKR dominated, Permatang Pauh is Anwar's hometown after all, and we could see party volunteers chatting up the locals at the kedai kopi. My wife took my boy in whilst I stayed in the car with the other kids. Nothing happened, but I couldn't help feeling unsettled...

Unlike in Langkawi, Kuala Kedah or back in KL, where I would be happy to jump into a partisan anti-UMNO crowd of followers and engage in conversation of the provocative type, something stopped me from doing the same that day. I could not blame the advice of others or my wife's own nervousness of my driving an MPV into Permatang Pauh with a pro-Tun Dr M car sticker at the back for spooking me. It was something else...

To say Permatang Pauh is Anwar's stronghold or even his kampung would be belittling the importance of the contest to his political life. For Anwar, Permatang Pauh has been a symbol of his enduring survival as a politician. The only constituency that never forgot nor abandoned him, even when the rest of the country was willing to give the new guy a chance in PRU-11, then consigning Anwar to history. Had Permatang Pauh chosen BN in 2004...

So Permatang Pauh as Anwar's choice for a return to Parliament was both a surprise and not so. Not a surprise as it is where he is most likely to win, but not so as he would certainly be returned to his political grave if he is beaten there. This is why it would have been dangerous for any smart aleck pro-Mahathir UMNO member to go lone-campaigner in a middle of rural Anwar-ville. It may have gained me some experience, but for Anwar and his people, it is about survival.

Nevertheless...

So I was actually quite unsurprised to see the claims by one of the four imams who witnessed Saiful's confession that the Quran-swearing was invalid and ingenuine. I was unsurprised as the imam Ramlang Porigi was from the area, nigh 'se-kampung' with Anwar. And of course Ramlang Porigi came forward voluntarily. He had to. You only need to hear the language of his 'expose' to realise why:

"...he had not conspired with anyone in relation to Saiful’s ’swearing on the Qur’an’ episode."

2.
"...he was now facing attacks."

3.
"...he had nothing to do with the preparation of the text of that which Saiful uttered..."

4.
"...he asked that the people of Permatang Pauh would not fault him for this entire episode."

Ramlang Porigi was afraid. Assuming he, as a religious man, was speaking sincerely, that does not detract from the fact that the language he used begged to be excused and forgiven by his kampung folk for 'betraying' their local hero, Anwar Ibrahim. That Ramlang Porigi was brave is not an issue, he was trying to survive and retain his license to come back to his kampung without being harassed for his involvement in the Saiful Quran-swearing event.

One must be sympathetic of the position Ramlang was put in. He made clear that he did not ask to be involved in these events, he was doing his job. But certainly it must have been most painful for him to have been exposed as one involved, as he would have been 'attacked' not just by anonymous Anwaristas on the web, but by his kampung folk, family members even!

Nevertheless...

There has always been an undercurrent of fanatacism surrounding Anwar that brings discomfort to many. One recalled his fiery days as a student leader, then youth activist. And even whilst he wraped himself with civility in government and helped re-draw the AUKU act, that would curtail the rise of another like him, he always has others around him who would attack when needed. Remember the Anwarista led UMNO Youth attack on anti-Burma junta protesters in the 1990's?

I was unsurprised at his reaction to removal from government in the late 90's. I am somewhat unsurprised at the type of emotions, fanatacism and actions he is inciting now. If anything, the added vitriol in his rhetoric following Saiful's allegations are also consistent with his past behaviour. The man attacks when cornered, especially when it is a matter of his survival. And when he attacks, his loyal followers attack with him.

Nevertheless...

I remain stunned that Malaysians have turned a blind eye to this naked, very un-Malaysian aggression that underlies Anwar's on-going, unrelenting quest for power. There are parallels that anti-UMNO folk wish to draw between Ketuanan Melayu and Nazism, though they conveniently turn a blind eye to the parallels between Anwar's and Hitler's rise to power!

As a student of history, the parallels are unmistakable. Both Anwar and Hitler were early under-achievers, rising in politics through aggressive social activism, one bordering, the other actual in perpetrating violence. Both cut down to size in their early prime, surviving, then rising again, to the point of leading a populist, yet minority grouping in Parliament. The parallels are not exact, but enough to scare. Add to that Hitler's early popularity abroad as a saviour of Germany...

Violence and aggression has never been the Malaysian way. And it seems in our desparation for a change in leadership, much as the Germans were desparate in the early 1930's, too many of us are turning to Anwar as a saviour whilst blinded of the pitfalls by the troubles of Pak Lah. Are we sure Anwar is the saviour of the nation? Or is he another for us to regret and lament trusting later?

The one Anwar-Hitler parallel that is also apparent to me from events of late, news and private, is the propensity to incite fanatical aggression and violence. We should just be grateful that Malaysians are a generally more peaceful lot.

Nevertheless... the politics of fear is not a monopoly in Malaysia...

Top Ten Things I Don't Ever Want To See In A Movie Trailer Ever Again

I used to have so many found memories of going to the theater, especially as a child and teenager and one of my favorite things was getting to see the trailers for coming attractions. Before Al Gore invented the series of tubes know today as ‘the Internets’ this was the only way to see them outside of those expensive VHS tapes–(in the long long ago, movies came on these spools of tape held together by intricate pieces of plastic) So seeing previews of upcoming flicks on a big screen was a real treat, and I know most people still have those feelings… but not me. Nope. All those fuzzy feelings have been ripped out of me by a marketing tool know as a ‘Trailer Disc’. Allow me to explain.

I'm a frequent customer at video rental stores like HMV and Speedy for four years, and the one thing (other than renting out movies) that they all have in common is the God Damn Trailer Disc. A Trailer Disc is simply a monthly DVD that contains about 15-20 Movie Trailers that plays in a constant loop. Now, take 8 hours a day + 5 days a week for 7 years and math-a-matize that shit by a 25 min continuous loop and you can start to see the origins of my madness. I HATE TRAILERS. I just can’t stand those Fuckin’ things. So, during one of my random bitchfests at work about that fuckin’ disc, I decided to compile a list of the 10 most horrible cliché things that I am bored with, tired of and pissed at in these 2 ½ minute milestones of vexatious minutia. Enjoy.

10. The ‘Hey, Where Was That One Part?’

This one is annoying in retrospect. You ever watch a trailer, get psyched to see the movie based on what you saw, go see the movie and the material you saw in the trailer that made you want to see the movie was cut out of the movie, thus negating the purpose for seeing said fucking movie? That shit makes my piss boil.

Example: ’Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy’. Almost the entire original trailer.

09. The ‘You Were Expecting Someone Else?’

The Trailer starts out serious like and just when you are thinking ‘OMG is this the new James Bond trailer?!’ The narrator drops out and … Whomp Whom, Nope! It’s a Super Funny Comedy! Let’s go see that, it was SOOOO clever in tricking us, tee hee hee!

Example: ‘Get Smart’ (2008) ‘There has always been a delicate balance of chaos and control. Now with that balance threatened it’s time to turn to one man…’ and it’s Steve Carell. DURP!!!

Hasn’t this joke been done enough times? Think about, I bet each person reading this can think of at least 10 times they have seen this done. You know what? Wasn’t funny the first fucking time. Get a new shtick Assholes!

08. The ‘From The GUY that Brought You/Produced/Was In/Is Friends With…’

The studio gets a hit movie and decides to take the most quotable or quirky aspect of it and spin it into some recycled garbage in hopes that the original audience will fall for seeing the same shit twice.

Example: ‘Just Like Heaven’. ‘Featuring ‘NAPOLEON DYNAMITE’S’ Jon Heder!’ Remember him kids! He did the Funny Dance! Wee! Come to our new movie and see all his NEW catch phrases so you’ll be in on the Hot Topic slogan shirts! Hey you laughed at him before, so why not again! Note, Youtube this shit, it is so sad, they even used a clip of Heder giving the thumbs-up when they show him. How embarrassing.

07. The ‘Hey, This Isn’t A (ENTER GENRE HERE) Movie’

Misinterpretation of Genre. How many times have seen a trailer that made the movie look like a Comedy, or a Thriller and upon seeing it, it was anything but. A lot. Studio dicks will do anything to get your $7.50. They switch the tone of the trailer based on which movie it is appearing in front of. BULLSHIT! ASSHOLE JACK-OFFS!

Example: ‘Into The Blue’. When this was coming out there were 2 trailers I saw in theaters. One made the film look like what it was, a lame popcorn movie for tweenagers and I saw this in front of a summer blockbuster popcorn flick. I had a good laugh at the awfulness, but all was good. But then I saw another trailer in front of an adult centric mystery movie and the tone was WAY different, they tried to play it off as a fuckin’ thriller for the 18-30 crowd. Which it is… NOT! Douchebag Executives, I’m on to your bullshit. You can’t pull the mediocre shirtless boy-whore wool over my eyes God Dammit!

06. The ‘This Song Says It All!’

Overused Songs used in the trailer, but usually never in the movie. Simple, here is a short list off the top of my head: ‘Let the Bodies Hit The Floor’, ‘Click Click Boom’, ‘Lux Aeterna’, ‘Battle Without Honor or Humanity’, 'Requiem for a Dream', ‘Spirit In The Sky’, ‘My Love Open The Door’, ‘Theme From The Last of the Mohicans’. Can’t we try something original here? I know change is scary, but you never know… You could choose a new song and be the first in a long list of people to use it!

Example: Sunshine & The Da Vinci Code. I cringed when both used the them from 'Requiem for a Dream'.

05. The ‘Show ‘Em How Funny It Is’

This happens when someone in the trailer says something that the editor thinks everyone should laugh at, but during that scene in the movie, no one does. So, they cut to another part of the movie where people are laughing and stick them together to show us in the audience that, Hey! This Shit Is Funny!

Example: ‘Dan In Real Life’. Dane Cook: ‘Hey look everyone, it’s Dan’s book, best book I ever read.’ Some Woman: ‘Maybe the ONLY book you’ve ever read’ CUT TO: Dinner scene of a bunch of chuckle heads yukking it up. SWIPE to a car…’

I can’t stand this crazy, non sequitur excuse for a laugh track bullshit.

04. The ‘Were They Gunna Say What I THINK They Were Gunnna Say?!’

Something CRAZY happens to a character and the way in which the character chooses to express their feelings on the situation is to say ‘BEEP!’ Hmm, that was weird, I meant to say ‘HONK’, Umm, no… I’m trying to say *EXPLOSION*. Well fiddle sticks.

Example: ‘Monster In Law’. Wanda Sykes: ‘I am sick Sick SICK of Your ‘HONK!’

Holy mother of *KABOOM* is this *SCREECH* the most pathetic tactic to get a cheep laugh. How much of a crazy uptight right-wing conservative do you have to be to have your swear words Beeped for you to find it pleasant enough to chuckle at. *CRASH* this *BONK*. It’s as pointless as blurring someone’s middle finger, EVERYBODY knows what’s there, so why tease us with this Mickey Mouse Bull*CLANK* just to be P.C.?

03. The ‘One For The Road’

The Downfall of Intellect

The year was '99. Y2K was on the verge of destroying civilization while one band fearlessly took pride in making young people dumber, I was one of those young people. The poetic genius of Fred Durst had some how managed to rhyme the word "nookie" with "cookie". It's bewildering to think of the shite that I listened to when I was young.

What's more bewildering is that two of the older fellas on the team got into an argument about "Nookie" while in the dug-out. They were basically arguing over what "Nookie" meant. Nary a more philosophical discussion have I heard of. Anyway, I think we lost the game. We weren't too focused obviously, but at least we were cool. (?)

The trend of "being-dumb-is-cooler-and-less-pompous" became the social norm from this point forward. Though movies like 'Clueless' were responsible for starting the snowball effect years earlier; ultimately we have "Oh-I-remember-that-crappy-song" songs like this that shaped the intellect of the youth for the worst.

Some how I managed to reverse the "dumb-is-the-new-cool" syndrome for myself, but Limp Bizkit had done it's deed. They opened the floodgates for bands like Nickelback to come in; dance all around the intellect of our nation and go "cock-rock-a-doodle-doo." Oh well, at least Limp Bizkit's edgy brand of rap-rock is dead...for now.

No, Limp Bizkit is not solely responsible for the downfall of intellect...But they were certainly a major factor. To summarize for all you product-of-bizkit-idiots out there: Limp Bizkit made it cool to be dumb thanks to Fred Durst.

P.S. Wes Borland truly was the only good thing about ol' Limp Bizkit. What truely made Limp Bizkit suck was Fred Durst, and it's not pretentious or pseudo-intellectual to give your two-cent-opinion on any thing. My opinion is not superior to anyone else's opinion - if you think Limp Bizkit is good - so be it!

Regular readers & followers of the US 2008 Presidential Elections may have noticed that sometimes, once in a while, people use our comments section to post long-winded treatises about their favorite candidates. It's to be expected on political blogs, even those that are -- like ours -- sketchily informed and rarely serious, and written by a team of monkeys.

Nevertheless, these honest, heartfelt exchanges are part of the American conversation about the election, which is why I was horrified to read that US Presidential Candidate John McCain's campaign is bribing people to copy and paste his talking points in blog comments without revealing why they're doing it.

As a blogger, I am offended. This scheme is tacky, shady and ridiculous. Even worse, Barely Political is included on McCain's list of suggested blog targets!

What, we're not as important as something called "Hedgehog Report"?

Well, two can play this game: I urge you all to send indignant emails to the McCain campaign right now. Decry the blogola! And demand that Indecision 2008 be added to the blog target list, so we can decry the blogola some more! Do it!

Finally, I'd just like to say that John McCain has a comprehensive economic plan that will create millions of good American jobs, ensure America's energy security, get the US government's budget and spending practices in order, and bring relief to American consumers. Furthermore, There are serious issues at stake in this election, and serious differences between the candidates. And Americans will argue about them, as an American should. But it should remain an argument among friends; each of them struggling to hear their conscience, and heed its demands; each of them, despite their differences, united in their great cause, and respectful of the goodness in each other.

(What do I win, Senator McCain? What do I win? Is it a hovercraft?! Oh boy, I've always wanted a hovercraft! And is this blogola appeal to non-Americans as well?)

Last Tuesday, we shamelessly watch as Chelsea fought Malaysia in a exhibit football match. The majority crowd are Malaysians shamelessly wearing Samsung Blue T-Shirts and showing placards of Blues worship.

They've waited hours for the boys in blue to pop up at the hotel and play at the Shah Alam stadium. And what did the Blues gave us in return? Nothing.

Eric Samuel of The Star's Sport Section wrote: “Most of them just walked past, with their ears plugged into their music. They didn’t seem to have much time for us, even though some fans were waving flags and cheering,”

We even welcomed them with elaborate Sarawakian cultural dances, and again the face of John Terry ignored them.

“From their faces, they must have been thinking, ‘Aiyoh what-lah, coming to this sakai (savages, a derogatory term for the orang asli) country’. At least stop and admire the dances for a little while-lah,” chips in another StarSport writer.

Is this how the Chelsea football team treated us? With lack of respect for Malaysian fans?

And if they disrespect our people & customs, why are we still treating them like gods?

I'm not bashing any Chelsea or EPL fan. Infact, i'm a Man United an. But unlike me, most Malaysians go around and worship their favourite EPL player like they're the second reincarnation of Jesus Christ.

Andrew Sia who wrote a similar StarMag column, said "why do we so slavishly indulge in this West Worship, while receiving so little love back from our idols? Are we so lacking in self-worth?"

To answer the question: Yes, we are lacking in self-worth. And what's worse is that we do not realise it. For example: When Yasmin Ahmad's Mukhsin was released in 2006, it was sadly beaten in the box-office by Date Movie, which is by far the worst Hollywood movie ever made. If a touching Malaysian film like Mukhsin was beaten by a dumb film filled with fart jokes, then we Malaysians should be ashamed of ourselves.

And talking about football, the reason why Malaysians have total god-like support for EPL is because of our football team. Ever since the death of legends like Mokhtar Dahari, and the 1991 football match-fixing scandal that has cause the major shift in FAM, our team has gone from No. 60 in the FIFA ranking to No.192 last year. Malaysian football has become abysmal. The problems? unpaid players’ salaries, bankrupt state FA’s, politicians hogging posts, lack of grassroots development and bookies fixing matches have been dragging on for years. And the racial polarisation of the Malaysian Football team has caused a lack of multiracial support four our football development.

Therefore, we have a third world football mentality. Heck, we also have a third world infrastructure. I you remember 10 to 20 years ago, The Shah Alam stadium was the most beautifully done stadium in South East Asia. With a shape like a durian half-opened, it was lauded by critics as a work of art. Now, it looks like a piece of shit. Bad management, decaying walls, dull colours and smelly toilets have destroyed this stadium's reputation. It's no wonder why Mr. Scolari kept on moaning & bitching about the poor conditions of our stadium, especially when he's handling a team where his players are paid $670,000 per game.

But that's the small part of worshiping the West. It goes far beyond that. We treat Europeans & Americans like Kings when they travel to Malaysia. Besides the Petronas Twin Towers, most of our buildings in KL are copied by the West. And while there are rape cases happening in universities like Limkokwing & UM, we send off Mat Rempits from Rembau to prestigious British universities like Oxford. And while crap like Leona Lewis's "Bleeding Love" keeps playing in your iPods & your Sony Ericsson/Nokia Xpress Music phones, i am still waiting for someone to play Hujan on their iPod. Infact, whenever someone tries to play that annoying Leona Lewis song, i'll take my imitation MP3 player and play an ambient song from Ibiza or Hujan's "Pagi Yang Gelap" because that song makes me more Malaysian than a sleeping Prime Minister.

But even if we’re going to worship the Western culture with the Leona Lewises and the Chelseas, let’s at least worship them properly. Let’s revere not only the external stuff, like their football players, but also the deeper substances like the professional sports management, youth skills development and corruption-free leagues that has allowed great players like Beckham, Ronaldo & Terry to emerge. So that one day, we will have players that can storm the World Cup, as South Korea & japan did in 2002. And we must remember that Malaysia can also produce good quality exports, like Hujan, Yasmin Ahmad's films, Bass Agents, the Satria Neo and the Petronas Twin Towers.

Because if we don't, then we'll be stuck with douchebags in KL & Subang playing annoying Western music wearing a Chelsea Jersey while our patriotism will fade away in a whimper.

Malaysian computer for only RM500, laptop for RM1,000

LUSAKA (Zambia): Three months from now, Malaysians will be able to buy the i-Dola laptop and Jean-i personal computer (PC) at basement prices.

Mimos is now ready to licence the production of the Malaysian computer codenamed Mak Cik, which it took two years to develop. The laptop and PC are named after the Prime Minister and his wife.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili said the laptop would cost RM1,000, and the PC RM500.

“I have tested the computers and am happy with their performance,” said Dr Ongkili, who was here to attend the Global Southern Africa International Dialogue.

“They are wireless, Internet-based designs and need not be connected to fixed lines. To reduce costs, they do not have hard discs. You use a thumb drive instead.”

It is understood that the i-Dola and Jean-i will be as fast as computers using Intel Pentium 4 processors.

Dr Ongkili said that the King and Queen have already been presented with a pair of i-Dola laptops, which were previewed at the WCIT in Kuala Lumpur recently.

He added that several manufacturers were keen to make the computers, and were targeting selling about a million of them.

“The computers require broadband access and I have told the relevant bodies to speed up the roll-out of broadband coverage,” Dr Ongkili said.

He said the computers are targeted at students, businesses and housewives.

He revealed that Zambia and five other African nations have expressed interest in making the computer. In Zambia, laptops cost as much as US$3,000 (RM9,600).

Inul's KL concert cancelled

PETALING JAYA: Indonesian singer Inul Daratista's concert at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil, on Saturday has been cancelled after Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) cancelled the permit.

Inul who is famous for her gelek gerudi (killer gyration) hip movements performed in the country last year as well as in 2005.

According to news reports, Nasir Abu Bakar of IMS Prima Sdn Bhd (the concert organiser) said that he was disappointed with the decision because the Central Committee for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artiste had given the green light for the event. "We received the directive from DBKL to cancel the concert due to national security. If that is the reason, there is nothing else I can say," he told the media.

Inul's concert in Johor Baru was also cancelled at the very last minute after it could not get approval from various government departments in the state.

Nasir said his company had incurred RM800,000 in losses following the cancellation of the concerts in Johor and Kuala Lumpur.

He said those who had purchased tickets to the concert could ask for refunds from the company's office at 63A, Jalan Raja Alang, Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, or call 03-2693 6818.

Two years ago, Inul's concert at Stadium Merdeka and Genting Highlands received overwhelming support without any untoward incidents.

On Friday, National PAS Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub backed his Federal Territory Youth chief Kamaruzaman Mohamad’s protest against Inul's concert.

A group led by Kamaruzaman handed a memorandum to Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Abdul Hakim Borhan on Wednesday calling for Inul’s concert to be cancelled.

The memorandum cited many reasons including that the concert was “erotic”.

Another reason why PAS might be gay. They just don't want Muslim men get horny of women like Inul.

In what should come as a shock to absolutely no one, animal rights group PETA announced that it is upset with The Dark Knight because of a short scene in which Batman beats a few dogs in self-defense. PETA obviously has nothing better to complain about.

But to really show Batman the error of his ways, the animal rights organization removed him from its list of Top 10 Animal-Friendly Superheroes. Ouch. There’s also some great lines in the rant: “They didn’t need to make Batman into a dogphobic man!” True poetry. Then PETA asks, “Doesn’t the man with the James Bond gadgets know anything about peanut butter treats and deflecting devices?” Um, PETA? Did you even see the movie or are you simply unaware of how dumb you sound?

Like the rest of the entire world, I went and saw The Dark Knight this weekend, and also like the rest of the entire world, I was impressed with this darker take on the Batman mythos. I’m all for having Heath Ledger win the Oscar, and my superhero-comic-loving-nerd-patrol side could gush for hours about the intensity of this movie. But my animal-protector soul had a serious problem with a few scenes. Batman beats dogs—who knew?? P’shaw! And to think we gave him a spot on our coveted Top 10 Animal-Friendly Superhero list!

While I love that The Dark Knight lived up to its name by exploring the noiresque Frank Miller-inspired themes of Gotham’s protector, they didn’t need to make Batman into a dogphobic man! Batman is an icon, a superhero genius that beats up gun-toting thugs using only his iron fist of justice—KA-POW! He looks damn good in pleather while owning the streets, yet in The Dark Knight, he was punching out dogs left and right. Sure, it was self-defense, but doesn’t the man with the James Bond gadgets know anything about peanut butter treats and deflecting devices?

Because of this serious misstep for what’s otherwise a masterpiece, we’ve decided to take all the write-in votes for Hellboy seriously, knock our batvocate pal off the list, and replace him with the kitten-cuddling man in red.

“Emily Hussein Nordling,” her entry now reads.
With her decision, she joined a growing band of supporters of Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, who are expressing solidarity with him by informally adopting his middle name.

The result is a group of unlikely-sounding Husseins: Jewish and Catholic, Hispanic and Asian and Italian-American, from Jaime Hussein Alvarez of Washington, D.C., to Kelly Hussein Crowley of Norman, Okla., to Sarah Beth Hussein Frumkin of Chicago.

Jeff Strabone of Brooklyn now signs credit card receipts with his newly assumed middle name, while Dan O’Maley of Washington, D.C., jiggered his e-mail account so his name would appear as “D. Hussein O’Maley.” Alex Enderle made the switch online along with several other Obama volunteers from Columbus, Ohio, and now friends greet him that way in person, too.

Mr. Obama is a Christian, not a Muslim. Hussein is a family name inherited from a Kenyan father he barely knew, who was born a Muslim and died an atheist. But the name has become a political liability. Some critics on cable television talk shows dwell on it, while others, on blogs or in e-mail messages, use it to falsely assert that Mr. Obama is a Muslim or, more fantastically, a terrorist.

New Husseins began to crop up online as far back as last fall. But more joined up in February after a conservative radio host, Bill Cunningham, used Mr. Obama’s middle name three times and disparaged him while introducing Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, at a campaign rally. (Mr. McCain repudiated Mr. Cunningham’s comments).

The practice has been proliferating ever since. In interviews, several Obama supporters said they dreamed up the idea on their own, with no input from the campaign and little knowledge that others shared their thought.

Some said they were inspired by movies, including “Spartacus,” the 1960 epic about a Roman slave whose peers protect him by calling out “I am Spartacus!” to Roman soldiers, and “In and Out,” a 1997 comedy about a gay high school teacher whose students protest his firing by proclaiming that they are all gay as well.

“It’s one of those things that just takes off, because everybody got it right away,” said Stephanie Miller, a left-leaning comedian who blurted out the idea one day during a broadcast of her syndicated radio talk show and repeated it on CNN.

Ms. Nordling changed her name after volunteering for Mr. Obama before the Kentucky primary.

“People would not listen to what you were saying on the phone or on their doorstep because they thought he was Muslim,” she said.

Ms. Nordling’s uncle liked the idea so much that he joined the same Facebook group that she had. But when her father saw her new online moniker, he was incredulous.

In Kota Baru Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has given the go-ahead for the opening of entertainment outlets specifically discos and nightclubs with certain conditions imposed : no alcohol served, segregation of men and women and no showing of aurat (body parts that must be covered).

Dancing is not an unhealthy activity and Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz is all for it but it must not involve members of the opposite sex.

“I do not see any reason to forbid them (discos operating under Islamic regulations). This is because dancing is just a form of body movement. When dancing is done with the aurat covered and there is no intermingling, everything should be okay.” said Nik Aziz on remarks by State Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman Takiyuddin Hassan that Kelantan would allow the setting up of discos or nightclubs to promote tourism in the state.

Nik Aziz explained that Islam is flexible although many do not realize that. He elaborated that this is because they do not understand Islam.

This new development in Pas-controlled Kelantan is bound to draw the attention of the national media with all quarters eager to add their two-sen worth of opinions on this issue.

Some may even question the same-sex dancing directive, no alcohol directive and the ‘no mingling’ directive within the discos will certainly ruffle some quarters. However let us be patient and wait and see further developments in the state. Is this a step forward or just a flash in the pan initiative to appease the voters and boost its image in the national arena?

Now I know what they do behind all those closed door meetings. I once thought that they were busy debating issues of national importance (such as whether women are allowed to have names, or should they all just be called 'awek'), but noooo...they are probably busy dirty dancing with one another.

Well to all PAS members, don't worry. With these mens-only clubs, you no longer have to be ashamed! Your penchant for boogeying with old senior assemblymen need no longer be confined to boring old meeting rooms and conference halls. Now you can bring your Menteri Besar, Ministers and Datos to the nearest disco and watch them shake their thang'.

Recently, Shahrin has just secured a government approval for some 1,200 open approved permits (AP) for hybrid cars which will make him one very hot player in the auto industry.

Natasha's husband partners a 22-year Nik Iruwan Nik Izani, who aspires to be a Formula One driver, in this AP venture. Young Iruwan's dad is Nik Izani Nik Ibrahim, a senior VP in the Mofaz group. Shahrin's dad is the late Datuk Zahari Wahab, a deputy chief executive of the Ranhill Group.

Khairy Jamaluddin is in the picture above because he and Shahrin are buddies (Shahrin is also an exco of Umno Putera). KJ has been in the picture before where AP is concerned. His first cousin Datuk Haniff Aziz, a former official with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, is one of Malaysia's three ‘Heavenly Kings’ of APs. Haniff of Westar and Autostar fame is worth about RM300 million due to the AP business.

Khalid tells why Maimunah was removed

SHAH ALAM: The sudden termination of Maimunah Mohd Saidas Selangor Museum director was to give way to young and fresh ideas in its exhibition methods, said Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim yesterday.

Commenting on the termination, he said the decision was made in consideration of the needs and demands of the future community.

On Friday, Maimunah said she had received a letter that stated her two-year contract with the museum, which had another five months to complete, was terminated on June 9.

State Secretary Datuk Ramli Mahmud signed the letter.

State Islamic Affairs, Malay Customs, Infrastructure and Public Amenities chairman Datuk Dr Hassan Ali was reported as saying that Maimunah was not sacked or terminated but had to be removed as she had reached the age of 60.

Khalid said that although the contract was terminated early the state government could offer compensation to Maimunah.

Asked whether he thought a 60-year-old could no longer come up with fresh ideas, Khalid said: “Of course they can but naturally young people will have a 10-year plan while a 60-year-old has a one-year plan. I don’t want the museum’s officers to be its own artefacts,” he said.

Imagine you’re driving along with your pal. It’s night time. Maybe you guys are going bowling, or maybe you’re going to drive over to his house to just hang out. You’ve probably got a pretty quiet night planned. And then a military fighter jet starts shooting at you.

Last April 9th, at Dugway Proving Ground in Utah, two soldiers were driving a rented SUV about five kilometers from the part of the range used for live firing. It was at night, and an F-16 that thought it was firing at something in the live fire area, lit up the SUV instead. Only 70 20mm rounds were fired.

Fortunately, the two people in the SUV were only injured (both from flying glass, the passenger got a dislocated shoulder as he rapidly exited the vehicle when it quickly turned off the road and stopped.) The investigation of how this happened has not been completed.

That’ll teach that asshole not to put one of those yellow “support our troops” stickers on his car.

My experience of being in a new school....

It’s tough being a new student in a completely new school. You’ll find it hard to adapt to being in a new environment, especially in an environment so conformist that you just can’t conform to it. I’m different towards the attitudes of the Sri KL students. In my old school SMK Sri Cempaka Cheras, the students are basically people ranging from peace-loving hippies to self-thinking individuals. Most of them discover music from Myspace than hitz.fm, and some of them would know how to beat a game of Halo 3 in just three hours

But would you get the same type of students here in Sri KL? Here, the students listen to mainstream bands like Maroon 5 and Chris Brown rather than indie Myspace musicians like Hadouken or Talib Kweli. Is that a good thing? Well, Maybe. Or maybe not. I have yet to find one Sri KL who listens to Hadouken (And if you’re interested to listen to Hadouken, go their Myspace page now!).

But to me, that’s not a bad thing. Infact, some students here have introduced me to new music like heavy metal and electronic dance music. One student in my class is such a Metalhead, that he inspires me to dig into some heavy metal music from bands like Black Sabbath & Slipknot, while another fellow classmate of mine has such a hard on for DJs like Tiesto and Armin van Buuren, that I completely devoted myself to dance music, and now I have listened to my favourite DJs like Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold, Alex Kidd and Aphex Twin. I have also learned the Melbourne shuffle, a dance I was pretty much a stranger to before I went to Sri KL.

But today I’m not going to keep on talking about music. I want to continue to talk about being a new student in a new school. And the most important thing about being a new student is getting friends. And getting friends is easy, and conforming to a circle of friends is also easy. But maintaining yourself inside that circle is like the US Army being in Iraq 5 years after the fall of Saddam. It’s really tough, and the tougher it gets, you have no choice but to give up and quit.

You see, when you’re in a new environment, you’d have to surf the waves without falling. And I’ve fallen many times. I’ve embarrassed myself, I made myself look stupid, act rude in front of people, and it’s a really depressing experience. You felt disgraced and looked down upon for your actions.

And so, I’ve decided to quit the circle and be alone for the next few months. I don’t want to join other circles because they all look the same. I decided to only hang out with one or two friends during break or lunch, and sometimes I just eat alone at an empty table. I know it’s sad, but what can I do?

And what’s more sad about being in a new school is being in a class. I seat in the middle of the class, and behind me is a fellow classmate who is quite rude and mean towards. I tried tolerating him for atleast a week, but I just can’t. One classmate of mine is also a newcomer, but the bad thing is that she thinks I’m a “freak’ and bashed the previous school I’ve attended. And one classmate judges a book by its cover when it comes to me, and I felt really unpleasant towards such judgments. And aside from those, I had frequent fights with one classmate whom I can’t stand for months now. He’s quite paranoid, and seems to be quite sensitive whenever I made a remark about him. And some students find me rude and irritating because of my behaviour.

And because of that, I wanted to tell them that I’m sorry for all the mistakes that I’ve done, and I felt terrible for failing to make you guys like me. And In those months of horrible experience, I’ve suffered from depression, loneliness and anxiety as a result. I even had suicidal thoughts when I suffered those months of shame and embarrassments, especially on Thursdays.

However, it’s not really all that bad. This school does have some wonderful things I’ve experienced. The best things about this school are the teachers. They are fun, lovable, and have a great sense of humour. Pn. Kamala, my History teacher is really lovely and fun to interact with. My Science teacher Mr. Austin is hilarious in a mean kind of way, and he kind of resembles most British comedians like Chris Morris and Dylan Moran. And I finally have interests in Economics and Commerce thanks to teachers like Pn. Rosmawati and Pn. Norliza. It’s a wonderful experience having these teachers around.

And another good thing about this school besides music is the newfound individuality I’ve discovered during my first term. Sure, they don’t listen to the same music I do, and maybe they are more interested in American TV shows than most British shows I watch on BBC Entertainment, but atleast I felt free for some reason. I realized that it’s okay to be different than others, as long as I don’t make myself arrogant about it. And thank god, I’m one of the few lucky students who have managed to survive a term of Form 5 in a new school. Most students who took Form 5 SPM in a new school would drop out after 2-4 months after their first day. And I felt lucky because I’m not one of those students because I’m patient enough to survive in my first term being a Sri KL student.

And as the second term has already started, I’ll try my best to keep on until SPM is over, and I’ll make sure that this time, there will be lesser mistakes and embarrassments than those I’ve made during my first term. And if this time it really worked, I’ll probably remember my last and only year in Sri KL as the best year I’ve ever had..

To wear or not to wear songkok

JOHOR BARU: The four DAP assemblymen in the state are in a limbo over the wearing of the songkok at the opening of the Johor state legislative assembly.

The assemblymen from Bentayan, Mengkibol, Senai and Skudai, are in a dilemma as some members of the DAP central executive committee (CEC) don't want them to wear the headgear at the June 19 event where the Johor Sultan would be present.

However, a state DAP meeting decided on April 20 that the assemblymen could wear the songkok as a mark of respect to the Sultan.

(In 1990, the Sultan publicly ticked off three Opposition assemblymen for not wearing the songkok).

State DAP vice-chairman Norman Fernadez said it was unfair for the CEC members to practise double standards as assemblymen in Selangor wore the songkok at the opening of their state assemblies.

“Their (CEC) argument that the assemblymen in Selangor are members of the Government does not hold water.

“It is not fair to put the Johor DAP assemblymen in such a difficult position, especially with the Sultan,” Norman said, urging the four to wear their uniform, including the songkok.

Johor DAP chairman and Skudai assemblyman Dr Boo Cheng Hau said the state committee had made a decision but it was now up to the CEC to give the final nod.

Mengkibol assemblyman Ng Lam Hua said personally he did not mind wearing the songkok as a mark of respect.

“I asked my constituents and they said they do not care what I wear but are more concerned about what I say at the state assembly,” he said.

Senai assemblyman Ong Kow Meng, who also did not mind wearing the songkok, hoped the CEC would clear the confusion.

However, Bentayan assemblyman Gwee Tong Hiang said that he did not mind taking his chances by not wearing the songkok during the opening.

Speaker Datuk Ali Hassan advised all the assemblymen to wear their official attire including the songkok.

“Assemblymen in Johor are different. They may not be able to enter the assembly without the songkok,” he said, adding that he hoped the DAP assemblymen did not create problems on June 19.

The session ends on July 4.

This is the dumbest form of political correctness ever. Sure, the songkok is a Malay headgear, but it is also a Malaysian headgear. No?

NTSP Deputy Chairman Dato’ Kalimullah “Riong Kali” Hassan highly probable be awarded the Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) from the Federal Government which carry the title ‘Tan Sri’ as early as tomorrow, most probably for his role in spinning the stories and the ‘control’ he was able to enforce in most of the mainstream media, to make PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi look bloody good (though not many people actually thought he even did an adequate job at it!).

For someone who failed ‘security’ scrutiny when he was appointed Press Secretary to then Deputy Prime Minister En. Abdul Ghafar Baba more than fifteen years ago, Riong Kali later managed to wiggle himself as the speech writer to Foreign Minister and later Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

He also tried to get himself as the ‘Spokesman’ for the Seri Perdana (Just like The Whitehouse in Washington D.C. has a Spokesman) during the final leg of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad as the Prime Minister, twice! Of course, he did not get anywhere. However, he really tried.

Now, it seems the Federal Government under the weak leadership of PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah is now bestowing an award fit for a national hero to a much talked about Singapore intelligence service operative in this country!

All-Blogs pro tem President Rocky and now Tangents blogger A M Ubaidah S had talked about this investure, in accordance with this year’s official birthday celebration of the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong. What has he done, as a service to the nation and rakyat, to deserve this?

On the contrary, he had caused a ruckus more than two years ago by insulting Islam and the Muslims. On 11 June 2006, he vehemently lied about PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah meeting former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in Tokyo. He created history whens sued two prominent socio-political bloggers Ahiruddin “Rocky” Attan and Jeff Ooi, on 11 January 2007. On the same note, he gave Khairy Jamaluddin, the son-in-law a leg up and abetted in making him one of the richest unemployed nobody in this country (of course, for his own personal gain as well!).

It was said since the recently organised various meetings of UMNO Liaisons, one of the topic highlighted was about Riong Kali. Of course Penerangan UMNO had brought this up numerous times, throughout these years about the same matter and conveniently shot down as PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah was believed to have said “Dia kawan saya” when these complaints were brought up to the UMNO President’s attention.

This remarkably look like a ‘golden handshake’ and ‘face saving exit’ from NST. In retrospective, he has brought the paper from one new record low to another over these five years. NST had digressed from a less credible paper to an amazingly incredible major English daily!

The thirteen million plus Ringgit question now is, how more stupid can the weak leadership get?

During one of the breakaway session in the UMNO “retreat” at the Glenmarie Holiday Inn today, one of the three groups deliberated extensively on the media and its failure in the context of UMNO. They insisted that Riong Kali be sacked from his position and he and Khairy Jamaluddin should no longer have any role in either the party nor the Government. On the contrary, The ‘Level Four Boys’ were the persons responsible to recommend Riong Kali be given a ‘Tan Sri-ship’.

Petronas could go bust by 2018

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas will go bust within 10 years if all its profits are handed to the Government to continue subsidising fuel, said its president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Hassan Marican.

He warned that many national petroleum companies in the world have ceased to exist or were in financial trouble today because all their profits were taken away from them.

Speaking at a special briefing on Petronas’ contribution to the country, Hassan said that in the oil business it was important to reinvest profits in search of new technologies, reserves and continued revenue. Petronas has so far reinvested RM178.9bil of its profits.

“Petronas has played a major role by giving back a substantial amount of its profits to the Government,” he added.

At the close of its financial year in March last year, the national petroleum company had given the Government RM52.3bil in taxes, royalties and dividends which worked out to be 32% of the Federal Government’s revenue.

“Since the formation of Petronas in 1974 to last year, the company gave the Government RM335.7bil out of a total profit of RM570bil,” Hassan said.

Commenting on the fuel price increase, the Petronas boss said the corporation did not make a sen from the increase.

“All the oil companies get full market price for the petrol and diesel that they sell and the Government pay them the difference from the fixed price. This is where the subsidy comes into play,” he added.

Hassan revealed that oil companies operating in the country spent RM40bil a year in drilling and exploration works and a lot of this money wasinjected into the local economy.

Hassan also pointed out that it was now more expensive for Petronas to explore and extract oil.

“A lot of focus is placed on the high oil prices. There is very little talk about costs. The costs to explore and to drill for oil have increased by about 200% over the past three years.”

Hassan said Exxon Mobil made about US$40bil (RM130.31bil) last year, an increase of only US$1bil (RM3.26bil) from 2006, in an environment of higher crude oil prices.

“That is the world’s biggest, most efficient and most well-run oil company. Margins have eroded,” he said.

Hassan said Petronas was now “ scraping the bottom of the barrel” as far as finding and extracting oil was concerned.

Asked about criticisms that Petronas' accounts and profits were not transparent, Hassan said the corporation published a very detailed annual report which was deposited in the Parliament library.

“For all intents and purposes, Petronas is a public-listed company because we are rated by agencies like Standard and Poors, and Moody. We do not hide anything,” he added.

Look, I'm busy. I'm writing a script and I won't be disturbed. Except that because I'm writing about terrorism and Islam, I keep being distracted by Martin Amis. He prowls the thickets of my research like a demented flasher. Sometimes Christopher Hitchens pops up, too, and flashes along with his friend. They rail against Muslims. They're obviously daft. But people take them seriously.

No matter that they act like senile 12-year-olds on the Today programme website - smoking illegal fags to look tough and cool. No matter that Amis coins truly abominable terms like 'the age of horrorism' and when criticised tells people to 'fuck off'. Surely we all chuckle at the strenuous ennui of his salon drawl. Didn't he once accidentally sneer his face off? His 'insight' about Mohammed Atta involved pretending the hijacker was constipated for six months - brilliantly smuggling into our subconscious that idea that Atta was 'full of shit'. He abandoned his satire on terrorism in which a Muslim unleashes mass rape on America because 'faced with Islamism, even satire withers and dies', not because his idea was obviously rubbish.

Despite his manifest absurdity (he called the World Trade Centre attacks 'edificide' and the towers' destruction an 'apocollapse'), people take him seriously and if they do then we must.

Last week Amis was called a racist. I saw him speak at the ICA last month. Was his negativity about Islam technically racist? I don't know. What I can tell you is that Martin Amis is the new Abu Hamza.

To recap, Amis was called a racist because he said Muslims were backward, violent, homophobic, paranoid, boring, retarded and stupid. Hitchens said no, he's conducting a 'thought experiment'.

Now Amis should be allowed to wonder aloud about anything. He can suggest Muslims should 'experience painful discrimination until they get tough with their children' if he likes. Thought experiments are fine. But if he bundles his thoughts on Islam together and iterates them one after the other as he did when I saw him, he displays not unguarded musing but the forging of an incoherent creed of hate. It goes roughly like this: 9/11 was horrific, its driving ideology was totalitarian, the totalitarians were Muslims, all Muslims follow a book they believe to be the immutable word of God, I don't believe that, therefore all Muslims are idiots, and basically bastards. Idiot bastards moping around the Middle East in a paranoid funk just cos they lost their empire, and what a rubbish empire it was, too, by the way. Now, what is your balanced view of these primitive wife-beating idiotic bastards?

Like Hamza, Amis could only make his nonsense stand up with mock erudition, vitriol and decontextualised quotes from the Koran. To risk a familiar example, it won't do for Amis (or Hamza) to state flatly that the Koran exhorts Muslims to kill Jews without even asking whether this means all Jews or some particular group of Jews with whom the Muslims were fighting in the seventh century, or indeed, whether there are other verses that modify the message by deploring killing of any kind, or describing how 'people of the book [Christians and Jews] shall have nothing to fear or regret'.

I claim no great knowledge on this subject - level-three SATs perhaps - but Amis couldn't pass the test for morning playgroup. If my Shetland pony looks like a high-horse it's only because Amis is trotting round the paddock on a chihuahua.

So how does Amis manage to move from condemning the horrors of suicide bombings to pouring scorn on anyone who can believe in paradise - effectively all Muslims? He muddles his terms. Even Hitchens concedes Amis wrongly conflates Islamism with Islam. By fudging, Amis adds the weight of his reaction against terrorism to his contempt for Muslims in general. Take 'Islamism'. What does it actually mean?

For many it means 'political Islam'. Amis calls it a 'murderous ideology', equating it with terrorism. Now look at the following statement: 'The terrorist killings in New York, Madrid and London were wrong. They were indiscriminate, un-Islamic and based on ideas abstracted to the point of insanity.' I was firmly told this by an ex-Mujahideen who fought in Afghanistan 20 years ago. He was an Islamist. I strongly doubt he was murderous.

These concepts are more complex than Amis would have us believe. This lack of clarity allows him to group Muslims who stop teenagers shooting one another with a man who cheerfully saws the heads off Jews.

It's not easy. Even ex-Islamists seem confused. Ed Husain - whose Hizb ut-Tahrir memoir The Islamist made him the summer's top ram-raid sound-biter - condemns Islamism as 'totalitarian' but later allows for 'moderate Islamists'. What sort of braincrash is a 'moderate totalitarian'? I doubt it could even walk.

These distinctions matter because the way out of this mess (and it is a mess, fuelled by ignorance, stupidity, prejudice and weapons) is to clarify and discriminate rather than hurl abuse at anything that goes near a mosque.

I doubt many Muslims can be bothered with Amis. But he nurtures in his audience a corrosive prejudice against people they've never bothered to meet. It is culturally dim for us to form confident opinions about people based upon how they look and what we've heard they think. It is also against our interests. Nonsense abounds on the causes of terrorism but it is hard to argue that alienation doesn't channel potential foot soldiers towards radicalisation. As one solitary Muslim asked him at the ICA, 'Why such contempt for Muslims?' Amis must have known something was up because he dropped his drawl and called the man 'sir'. But he could hardly unspeak his views. And those views are certainly alienating.

With ignorance on his side, Amis can stare east through the salon window and convince us of a single advancing horde. He's clever. He might put it brilliantly. He might call it a 'Meccalanche' or an 'Attaclysm'. But when he speaks, think 'Hamza'.

Great article - what Chris Morris says here needed to be said. Martin Amis may or may not technically be 'racist', but he's certainly an idiot, and a pretty unpleasant one at that. I have no idea why so much of the British press gives respect and publicity to a man who so obviously knows absolutely nothing about what he's talking about.

The modern fears about 'Islamism' - as some of the comments on this very thread show - are overblown to the point of ridiculousness. Muslims make up a very small proportion of British society, and adherents to Abu Hamza-style extremism are a smaller group still; yet apparently they are the imminent threat we should all be worried about. "They'll ban atheism/Christianity/Hinduism/SubGenius/bla-bla-bla!" we're told, "and homosexuality! And force all women to wear headscarves!", and so on, without it ever being explained what kind of radical demographic and political changes would have to take place before those wingnuts represent a group with any kind of political power in this country.

This 'nightmare scenario' that we keep being presented, of evil Muslim men with scary beards taking over our country and enforcing sharia law, simply isn't going to happen. It's just not possible, not in Osama bin Laden's (or Christopher Hitchen's) wildest dreams. Britain's Muslim population may slowly grow, but 99% of its members will continue to pose no threat to mainstream liberal British society whatsoever. Despite the occasional, desperate efforts of the lunatic fringe, there is nothing worth getting terrified over.

What does scare me, though, is the continued demonisation and victimisation of Muslims as a whole. Perhaps society will always need its scapegoats, but nothing justifies the vitriol they routinely suffer simply for trying to practise their religion. I remind myself that this has happened time and again with British history, with the Irish, the Afro-Caribbeans, and the Jews, and every time the supposedly 'dangerous' minority group has proved itself to be anything but; eventually, society moves on and finds a new group to torment. One day, views like Amis' will thankfully be history; until then, we should take pleasure in treating them with the ridicule they deserve.

And judging by the majority of the responses at the Guardian comments section so far, anyone who dares approach Hitchens and Amis bigotry with even a scrap of objectivity is subjected to the same frothing-at-the-mouth abuse that one might expect from members of the BNP.

I'm sure that Hitchens and Amis would be quite horrified if they knew who they're now in bed with.

Subsidised petrol and the Singapore PR

Ever since the government’s decision to ban sale of subsidised petrol to foreign registered cars there have been numerous complaints by Singapore permanent residents but domiciled in Johor Bahru and using Singapore registered cars that they are being discriminated against.

These people work in Singapore and earn Sing dollars use Sing registered cars and so don’t pay our road tax but enjoy our facilities. I wonder whether they also pay income tax here? If my guess is right fat hope that they will pay their income tax here since they will say that they are already paying tax in the republic where they work.

Isn’t it ironic that they are deemed by the republic to be its permanent residents, yet they are not residents there but stay in JB where they not only enjoy lower cost for a house or house rental.
On top of this they also enjoy subsidised cooking gas, cooking oil, beras, flour, sugar and many other food items and subsidised goods. Why should these foreigners enjoy these subsidies and yet don’t even pay tax here.

They have no loyalty to this country and I am sure if you talk to them they will find all kinds of faults with this country and will praise the republic sky high.

And now when they are being denied just one subsidised item they are making all sorts of noise.

I think we should not be bothered by these ungrateful kind.
In the first place they should not be staying here in Malaysia at all. Since they so revere the Zionist influenced republic they should stay put there. Why must they stay here in Malaysia. It is their presence in JB that have to a certain extent made the cost of living in JB high even higher than in KL.

And as has been the case with our authorities known for their complacency (that was why we lost Pulau Batu Putih), I can bet that we don’t even know how many of these Singapore PRs are domiciled here.

Steps must be taken from now to identify and register them and perhaps discourage these foreign PRs from staying put in Johor.

One colleague has made a simple back of envelope calculation. If say one Singapore PR enjoys just RM30 of subsidy a day, a thousand of them would enjoy RM30,000 and if there are 10,000 of them staying in Johor then the subsidy would cost the country RM300,000 a day!

Since these are Singaporeans working in the republic, that is contributing to its economy, is it then wrong to conclude that Malaysia to a certain extent is also subsidising the republic?

We are always getting the wrong end of the stick in our relations with the Zionist influenced republic. Previously we have been selling them sand on the cheap to enable the republic to reclaim more lands which they sold off at thousands of S$ per square foot.

So they make money out of our sand just as they make money out of our cheap water when the resold the treated water to ships using their busy harbour.

So should we just keep quite and do nothing about all these merely in the name of good neighbourliness? But at whose expense?

If we were to reverse the roles, do you think the republic will keep quiet?

Government to engage bloggers in cyberspace

Some of the biggest bloggers in Malaysia now are Umno bloggers. Dr Mahathir (he's quit the party but only until PM Badawi steps down) should touch 1 million hits in the next 24 hours. A million visitors in less than a month is phenomenal, unheard of. Probably a world record. Most bloggers take years to reach a million.

Khir Toyo's blog is big, too. Since March 28, he's attracted over 600,000 visitors.

Kelab Maya Umno, or myKMU, is one of the biggest websites and it is pro-Umno. Agenda Daily is pro-Umno, too. Bigdogdotcom has over 1 million visitors.

The number of pro-Government bloggers would still be small (only 20 out of 190 socio-political blogs surveyed by a varsity before March 8 were pro-Government) but the traffic they are generating is not.

So what's the problem?
Well, the thing is these Umno/pro-Umno bloggers are too critical of the party's leadership. Many are actually anti-Badawi and his policies, promises, and practices.

The Government wants to engage bloggers? Sure. If it can convince its own bloggers to support it, maybe it'll be easier to persuade others.

Right on Rocky Bru. How you want to convince the rakyat especially the generation Y-ers when you fail to convince your own party members with your policies! Each day you can see people running away to join the Pakatan Rakyat State Government while you guys make a fuss about Ezam Nor rejoining UMNO as if he's a messiah or something.

Weak leadership would result in chaotic policies, so be responsible and start a change that we can believe in. Remember destiny is for the sake of the country!

I AM writing to state my and my children’s stand on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and beg to differ from the letters by James Tan and Mohd Ghazali Osman (The Star, May 22)

I was born in 1944 and had to go through what other parents and their children had to go through in those days, living hand to mouth day to day and not knowing when our next meal would be.

I had to walk 10km to and back from school every day because we could not afford the 10-cent fare on a rickety bus.

And that only after going around the village shouting 'kuih-kuih, nasi lemak' over and over again until I had covered all the houses in the village.

Even during my secondary school days I had to go to the coffee shops to place my mom's nasi lemak and kuih on the towkays' tables and collect the unsold ones for lunch.

Sometimes I had to walk to the kedai runcit in the rain or the hot sun a kilometre away just to buy 5 cents worth of salt, or sugar, or ikan bilis, because that was all we could afford with my dad's income of about $1 a day as a petition writer.

In 1959 I was chosen to study in the Malay College, Kuala Kangsar, but unable to as we could not afford the $60 per term fees. I had to work after finishing Form 5 at $122.50 a month to help support my parents.

Then Allah gave us Tun Dr Mahathir.

The last three of my seven children got their degrees from ITM. Two of them are doing well in private cleaning services because of the infrastructure made available. I don't have to be a crony to be a successful retired businessman.

Anyone can be a millionaire in Malaysia if one tries hard enough.

Don't try to compare anyone to Dr Mahathir. No one can ever come close enough, not in a million years.

This is one heack of a beautiful letter.

KUANTAN: Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob briefly became a newscaster during the state assembly sitting here yesterday, reading an article about stringent measures taken by the Singapore Government on a group of political activists who screened a film about Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew without obtaining approval from the media regulator.

The article was carried by a local English daily yesterday and with the paper cutting in his hands, Adnan took several minutes reading it.

It was to drive home the message that by being too lenient and open to media practitioners including bloggers, there could be an influx of articles so much so that readers were inclined to believe falsehoods.

Adnan said that it was good if Malaysia could be strict like Singapore.

“In Malaysia, we just let them be and due to some bloggers, people tend to believe unfounded articles as the truth.

“This is to show that this is what we get when we are too open,” he said.

Adnan, however, noted that a blog had its uses as it could be a platform to explain the government's policies and programmes.

He also spoke in jest that even he had a blog while state Information, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin had none.

Earlier, when replying to a written question from Abdul Rahman Mohamad (BN – Padang Tengku), Mohd Sharkar said he had no intention of setting up a blog because readers whose negative comments were not posted might take the matter into another blog and condemn him or the state government.

The same time an UMNO member calling for more press freedom, this time it's another UMNO member calling for less press freedom!

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian group condemned the uniform worn by girls at government schools, saying it encouraged rape and pre-marital sex.

“The white blouse is too transparent for girls and it becomes a source of attraction,” National Islamic Students Association of Malaysia vice-president Munirah Bahari said in a statement.

“It becomes a distraction to men, who are drawn to it, whether or not they like looking at it,” she said, calling for a review of uniform policy so that it did not violate Islamic ideals.

In multicultural Malaysia, home to majority-Muslim Malays as well as ethnic Chinese and Indians, female students at government schools have a choice of wearing a white blouse with a knee-length skirt or pinafore.

They may also wear a “baju kurung” and a headscarf is optional for Malay students.

Munirah said that “covering up” according to Islamic precepts was important to fend off social ills, including “rape, sexual harassment and even premarital sex.”

“This leads to babies born out of wedlock and, to an extent, even prostitution,” she said.

“Decent clothes which are not revealing can prevent and protect women from any untoward situations,” she said, suggesting that girls wear a blouse of a different colour or with an undergarment.

However, the girls themselves also came in for criticism, with the association saying that some used the white blouse to lure men.

“This is the source of the problem, where we can see that schoolgirls themselves are capable of using this to attract men to them,” Munirah said.

“This could see them getting molested, having premarital sex and all sorts of things.” – AFP

Former Umno president Dr Mahathir Mohamad today announced that he was quitting Umno with immediate effect and urged other members to emulate him.

He said he was quitting the party, which he led for almost 22 years until handing over the reins to Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in 2003, as a sign of no confidence in his successor's leadership.

"I will only come back to the party when there is a change in leadership," the ex-premier told a crowd at a forum in his home state of Kedah this morning.

He also called on all Umno ministers, deputy ministers and all levels of party leaders to join him in leaving the party.

However he asked these members not to join any other party.

"Wait till Abdullah to quit as the prime minister and party president and then we can return to Umno," he said.

Mahathir joined Umno at its inception in 1946 and in recent years has been Abdullah's most vocal critic.

He entered active politics as a member of Parliament for Kubang Pasu in 1964.

He lost his seat in 1969 and was expelled from the party after attacking then president and prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman.

I disagree with TDM's decision to do this, as much as I dislike AAB I think his move would merely cause additional problems. His son is almost ready to take over the Pemuda helm and I don't think this move is indeed wise.

Richard Dawkins can fuck off!

I'm a Muslim but i don't care if it offends other people or not. I have atheist friends, but do i care if they are Atheist? No. I don't care if evolution happens. Heck, maybe evolution is a part of creationism. But still, i don't care.

One thing i don't like about atheism is their "philosophers/scientists" or whatever you call it. I enjoyed the works of Nietzche, but with people like Hitchens, Dawkins, Hari and Pullman, they should just fuck off. Especially Dawkins.

Some atheists aren’t satisfied by simply having this argument and feel the need to actually dedicate their lives to it by writing books and appearing on TV. Dawkins, a scientist and author who has a chair at Oxford University and has many acclaims. He’s done other stuff in the past but at the moment his whole thing seems to be going round the world and explaining to religious people that they’ve wasted their lives.

That's fine. But do we care? No. Do we care you're an atheist? Fuck no. Why should an atheist like Dawkins care if there are people with religion? It's like a straight man caring about gay sex(which is a reality sadly).

It's not like people are gonna say to Dawkins - "Gee thanks Richard. I used to believe that there was a universal controller, but thanks to you i'm now free". Okay, so maybe there are people who became atheists because of Dawkins, and yes it is true that his book "The God Delusion" sold 31 million copies. But Dawkins, with his arrogant smirk and intolerance, believes that the world would be better without religion. It's like saying that children will be free without parents.

One reason he cites is that wars have been fought over religion, therefore it is bad. Yes Richard, wars have been fought over religion, millions of people have died in its name but do you really think that there would have been no war without it? I think we’d probably just have had wars for different reasons don’t you? Sadly people just fight with each other sometimes, people’s interests are at odds sometimes, sometimes people look across borders and think ‘Y’know what? I’d quite like all that land for myself.’ More often than not religion’s just an excuse.

‘Religion gets in the way of scientific progress!’ is another form of bullshit spewed by atheists like Dawkins. Religion may not be compatible with science, but science and religion can exist together without clashing of ideas. Look at the likes of Al-Razi, Albert Schweitzer, Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Al-Jabr, Al-Ghazali and such. These scientists and inventors are religious. However, what Dawkins seems to forget is how these innovators can be intelligent while being religious. Simple: The leave out religion so that they could continue their works. Dawkins thinks that "If a man with a religion wants to do science, he has to involve hsi religion" That's not true. Scientists have never involve their religion with theirs cientific achievements. Never. Does Mohamad El Baradei ever involve his Islamic beliefs when he's dealing with Iran's nuclear issue? Never.

But what about intolerance? Religions promote intolerance right? Okay, a very small minority use religion as an excuse to be homophobic, racist etc. But again, there are just small minded people in the world who are going to see somebody doing something different and get all angry. People hear what they want to - if someone’s chosen to fixate on the obscure parts of the Bible or the Qur’an that deride homosexuality then, let’s be honest, they’re most probably quite the homophobe anyway. It’s not as if there aren’t racist/sexist/homophobic academics now is it?

And what pisses me more about Dawkins is that he downplays the positives of religion. Rumi, Michaelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, David Lynch, Stephen King and Bono have such a hard-on for God that they created arguably the greatest work of art, film, music and literature in history(Eventhough i hate Bono). I’m pretty sure that some Muslim brothers would still perform the haj & umrah when every copy of ‘The God Delusion’ has been rightly pulped - are we really more of an advanced society without God?

I remember watching Dawkin's documentary "The Root of All Evil", and one thing that kept pissing me off was the use of the word "truth" continually. To start with, considering it was such an integral part of his argument, you would think he would define the term 'truth' at least once. But alas, it was left unsubstantiated.

Richard Dawkins thinks truth is inalienble with science. That is such a rigid and presumptious way to look at truth. What has been considered scientifically sound in the past has been disproven: 'The earth is flat'. Science cannot provide us with total stability or objectiveness. My personal understanding of truth is a philisophical one of individual perception. Something is only true if I perceive it to be true. Truth is only that which I agree for it to be. And is not completely based on scientific knowledge

Nietsche once wrote "There are many kinds of eyes..., and consequently there are many kinds of 'truths', and consequently there is no truth"

The perception argument for truth is classic post modernism, and I personally disagree with the idea of their being 'no truth'. If truth is only what we perceive, then the 'truth' can be twisted to fit ones own ends. On the other hand, I think that hunting for truth by logic and science alone is foolish and is subject to ones own perception and use of that logic. As the cliche goes, the truth is somewhere in the middle of these two arguments!

Dawkins, as usual, believes there is only his way and that somehow that his pure, robotic logic is delusion and perception free and hence can only be the truth. Unfortunately, like most of his arguments, it is a lie...

So, in conclusion; are those guys at the Christian rock concert & Nasyid gatherings waving their hands in the air a little weird? Yes. Deluded? Maybe, but you definitely can’t call them miserable. They’ve figured out a way to exist in this bizarre world that works for them and they’re not hurting anyone, so leave them alone you sanctimonious prick!

The reality of Pakatan Rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR: Backbencher Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan (Kota Belud-BN) caused a stir in parliament yesterday when he alleged that he was offered a large sum of money to defect to the opposition camp.

“I’d like to ask the Speaker, is it not corruption for certain opposition leaders to offer goodies to members of parliament (MPs) to jump ship? I myself have received a call offering a large sum of money to jump ship. Is that not corruption?

“They also offered me a Cabinet position. Is that not corruption?” he said when debating the motion of thanks on the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Abdul Rahman also claimed that bribery was pervasive during the contest against the late Tun Ghafar Baba for the position of Umno deputy president, where tons of money, projects and “pink forms” were used as “grease” to secure victory.

“We in Sabah still remember how delegates (to the Umno general assembly) can be bought and threatened. Thanks to the supreme leader of PKR (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) for introducing and turning money politics into a culture in Umno Sabah,” he said.

He also teased the Pakatan Rakyat on who would succeed Anwar if he became the next prime minister, claiming that his constituents were pressing him on the matter.

“Who will become the next prime minister after Anwar? The people want to know? Can Pakatan Rakyat continue to surprise and create history by appointing the first prime minister from among the Chinese and Indians — (for example) the honourable MPs from Ipoh Timur (Lim Kit Siang) or Bukit Gelugor (Karpal Singh) from the DAP. We will wait…” he said.

Abdul Rahman also questioned whether Pakatan would allow PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to become prime minister.

“With his turban and robe ala Taliban, he is said to be unsuitable to hold the prime minister’s position as he can give the wrong image of Malaysia to foreign investors,” he said, adding that even non-Malays in Malaysia would be concerned if Hadi became either home or education minister.

He also asked whether PKR president and opposition Leader Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, whom he characterised as a puppet and warming the seat for Anwar, could become a prime minister.

Taking a swipe at Mohamed Azmin Ali (Gombak-PKR), Abdul Rahman said the PKR vice-president was so obsessed with his leader to the point of following Anwar’s style of clothing and speaking.

He ended his speech by saying Anwar was building an empire of nepotism and would appoint his daughter, Nurul Izzah (Lembah Pantai-PKR), to succeed him as prime minister.

I oppose the forming of the government through cross-over MPs. It's undemocratic and unfair. If there is a crossing over, there should be a by-elections. This is a democracy right?

Najib never reads blogs, nor understands the problems

I have been always fascinated by statements from our leaders in government, when they say, the people are happy, the people are satisfied, the people understand, the people love, we are following the needs of the people and so forth. I thought there is a secret mechanism that Government has, which at the press of a button tells you, so many people are with this, so many people oppose this and so many people are undecided. Something like a poll, that gives answers.

Najib says people are happy with the National Service programme. I am so sad to conclude that he does not read Malaysiakini, nor the blogs. I don’t know whether this has got to do something with his selective reading list, but unfortunately I read Malaysiakini and blogs and it gives me a different ‘perception’.

Apparently Najib is just busy not to read Malaysiakini nor the blogs but surely someone in his Ministry can do this and pass on a summary, and embarrassing statements like this can be avoided.

Khairy Jamaluddin's (BN-Rembau) maiden speech while debating the royal address lived up to expectations - that it would turn riotous - as all hell broke loose in the house today after he let fly a litany of offending remarks about the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

He started civilly enough by talking of matters of common agreement such as the tragedy in Burma following the cyclone, the planned restructuring of the Anti-Corruption Agency and the proposed commission for the appointment and promotion of judges.

Even when he touched the Malaysian Commission on Anti-Corruption and plans to enact legislation to protect whistleblowers, the only interjection was from Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud (PAS-Kota Raja), who remarked that there were no such plans to enact the latter.

He (photo: right) also proposed several measures to reduce time spent on government procurement processes and to increase their transparency, as well as recommendations to ensure that government subsidies and other funds reach the ‘strategic' sectors and the poorer sections of the population.

Things started picking up, however, the moment he turned to the issue of rising oil prices.

Criticising PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim for citing his own track eight-year record as finance minister to prove that oil prices can be kept low, Khairy said Anwar had sought to "fool" the people by comparing his times with the current global economic situation.

I remember my crush towards Lindsay Lohan. It was when the film Mean Girls was released. She plays a homeschooled girl who enters the world of high schools and then befriend a clique of dumb teenage girls led by Rachel McAdams. When the film was released, i realised how big her pairs were, and when i received a copy of FHM, here's the one thing that made me love her more:

That photo made her the ultimate teen fantasy. She was crowned the hottest teen starlet after Natalie Wood and Molly Ringwald.

But after 4 years, she looked like this:

What the fuck happened to her?

How come a promising young actress like Lindsay ends up being a trainwreck? In those 4 years i expected her to get an Oscar nomination, but tabloid after tabloid after tabloid after tabloid, she keeps getting worse, and it's a sad thing because she got dropped out from 10 movie roles, and those roles would have given her an Oscar. Oh, and of those roles she got dropped out was the character Blair "fucking" Waldorf!

Is Karpal Singh stupid?

"Karpal still doesn't get it. The time for opposition politics is over. Now, the PR is faced with a mountain of practical issues to overcome and making enemies with:

a. The majority race (malays)
b. The royalty
c. The Islamic faith

is not going to help each and every PR government in carrying out their duties.

Karpal need to wake up and smell the coffee. The time for rhetoric and empty threats is over. The reason why Karpal is not getting resonance from fellow DAP leaders is because they are all in the business of “getting things done”.

And practically, handling issues which is of not in the majority of the public’s interest is not a big priority on their agenda. What’s important now is to deliver what has been promised in the last election.

And I am sure that making enemies with the Palace is one sure way of getting yourself in a hot soup for no major gain.

My point being is that let us tackle issues that’s of public’s interest and not of your own individual political ideology agenda which is most of the time unpopular with the public.

The public wants to see the government deliver. That’s the #1 agenda for all. And the Malaysian public is a very pragmatic type of public, including the Chinese. That explains why the level of support of the Chinese to Dr. Mahathir when he was PM was consistent since 1990.

Despite the fact that Dr. Mahathir is a racist, a bigot, an ardent supporter of National Economic Policies and not to mention Malay Rights, the Chinese electorate came to his rescue in the 1999 elections and gave BN a rousing support in 2004 all because of him.

Karpal and his band of misfits should ask themselves, why is this so? How can a man who’s belief structure is heaven and earth apart from the Chinese can get so much of the Chinese support?

The answer is simple. Dr. Mahathir delivered. During the time of his reign, the Chinese experienced economic uplifting never before experienced under any other Prime Ministers. For that, the Chinese threw their support behind Dr. Mahathir come what may. In fact, the level of support for Dr. M among the Chinese did not wane even after he made his Negara Islam declaration.

DAP should remember this for in 1995, Dr. Mahathir nearly routed DAP from the map of Malaysia. In 1999, if it wouldn’t for the support of the Chinese, the BN government would have fallen with their face down. The Chinese defended the rule of Dr. Mahathir despite Dr. Mahathir being the opposite of the Chinese political beliefs.

Karpal, for one, have not learnt his lesson. Karpal needs to evaluate an issue and differentiate between issues which is “realpolitik” and “elitepolitik” of nature. It seems most of the PR leaders are aware of this except Karpal.

As a result of Karpal’s non-discriminatory actions, the BN has found an opportunity to drive a wedge between the PR leaders. Their insistence to indict Karpal for sedition is an attempt to drive a wedge between the PR leaders (http://www.malaysia-today.net/2008/content/view/7187/1/)

One should ask, why indict Karpal on this issue alone? Why wasn’t there an indiction on his other statements before? The reason is that the parties involved in this issue are members of the PR specifically PAS.

The BN is trying to catch PAS in an awkward situation. Karpal’s statement was in defense of the Perak MB’s action to sack the Director of JAIP. It will be very awkward for the MB of Perak not to defend Karpal. On the other hand, if the MB of Perak or PAS do not come out to defend Karpal, then it will show that there is no solidarity among the PR component parties.

But, the fact that no other DAP leaders coming out to support Karpal shows that Karpal is guilty of becoming a loose cannon. And PR do not need loose cannon, especially with someone like Karpal Singh.

So, my suggestion to PR leaders is to leave Karpal to his own devices and let him sink and swim with his statements. Pretty soon, the public will see that most of Karpal statements do not represent the DAP or PR in any way."

Dr.Mahathir Mohamad made a startling claim that today that his "successor" Abdulah Ahmad Badawi recently thwarted a meeting between the ex-premier and deputy premier Najib Abdul Razak.

"This is no longer a democratic Umno. I would like to say here - i don't know how im going to hurt people - i wanted to see Najib. He said he would come and see me, "he said after a press conference in Putrajaya.

"He said he would first have to get the permission of the prime minister. Apparently he did not get permission. So until now, he has not seen me.

"It would be terrible to think that the prime minister does not trust his deputy. In my time, i trusted my deputy until he did something funny. Otherwise, i trust my deputy, "said the former premier of Malaysia for 22 years.

Mahathir said that he had tried to set up the meeting with Najib "immediately after the general election" to discuss the changing political situation.

"Im concerned about what is happening in Umno. I have to say this because I kept this to myself because i thought it was not right to reveal it to the public.

"But things are getting very serious now. People are not allowed to talk. I understand when Tengku Razaleigh (Hamzah) goes around to meet people at the branch level, Umno members were told not to attend.

"What kind of party is this? You are only allowed to hear from one source. I think this is the cause of the losses of the last election. People were not allowed to speak and the leadership does not know what the people are thinking,"he said.

So far, so good: Two months on after the general elections of March it would appear as if some semblance of normality has returned and Malaysian life is meandering along at its normal KL-traffic jam pace. Despite the scare tactics that were employed during the election campaign, none of the worst-case scenarios have been played out and our mothers have not been rushing to the local sundry shops to stock up on Ayam brand sardines.

There have, however, been some odd rumblings in the distance that we ought to take notice of: It was reported that members of the Islamic party PAS have called on the PAS state assemblymen in Selangor to work on improving the image of the party in the state, beginning with some rather cosmetic attempts at Islamisation that include the proposal to build more prayer houses and prayer rooms for Muslims in markets and other public places. Other suggestions have included calling on PAS representatives in Selangor to call for standards of decency to be set for Muslim women (and why only Muslim women?), as well as ensuring that Selangor’s beloved state religious authorities are empowered to direct Muslims who frequent the public spaces of Selangor to pray during the appointed prayer times for Muslims.

Noises of this sort are, of course, to be expected from some of the more conservative elements of the Islamic party that we have come to know and love. But before the good ‘ol Mat Skodeng squads are let loose on the unsuspecting public, and another bunch of Malaysian kids are locked up in cages to be verbally abused and video-ed for the amusement of the moral guardians of society, let us remind ourselves of a few simple facts:

The rejection of the former BN-dominated state government was never meant to be read as an endorsement of an Islamic state or an Islamisation programme. Indeed, it was precisely the antics and shenanigans of JAIS in the recent past that turned off many moderate liberal urban-based Malaysian Muslims who saw that under the UMNO-led government the country was heading down the path that would lead us to Kabul and the happy farms of the Taliban. Nope, this was a vote for change, remember?

Furthermore some of the more maverick elements of PAS ought to realise that the rest of us are trying to build a new Malaysia, which entails a different sort of Malaysian politics for a different sort of Malaysian society: one that is plural, inclusive, respectful of cultural and religious diversity and one where we can snuggle up in the spirit of multi-culti pan-Malaysian love without some former street hoodlum with a video-cam in his clammy palm recording our feats of transcultural love-making for the sake of the religious courts, thank you.

Which brings us to the sticky subject of khalwat, which happens to be the thing that so many of these moral guardians are so obsessed about. It is our earnest hope and wish that with the emergence of a new Malaysia the morality police raids and the entire culture of moral policing will be a thing of the past, associated with the dark middle ages when Malaysia was ruled under the BN.

For decades, the narrowing of the scope of discussion on ethics and public morality was due to an increasingly slender and shallow understanding of what constituted ethics and moral behaviour in the first place. Not surprisingly, the policing of bodies – Malaysian bodies, and what Malaysians do with their bodies – came to be seen as the benchmark of proper social conduct. It began with the policing with the dress and demeanour of women; then with the policing of the physical contact between men and women. As the policing of bodies became the norm so did the notion that the body itself is at fault and thus morally liable: Attractive women were deemed ‘guilty’ of being too attractive and thus vulnerable to rape; men and women were deemed guilty due to the ways they sat, walked and even touched each other.

Of course, none of the moral guardians who stalk the corridors of power seemed to take into account the fact that when bodies touch, so do hearts. Somehow along the way the simple idea that sex may be accompanied by love was lost as well; leading us to the ludicrous situation where young couples caught holding hands were charged for immoral conduct, presumably on the assumption that they were walking all the way to Sodom and Gomorrah.

That love has been divorced from sex is not entirely uncommon in the rather dry and sterile land of the self-appointed guardians of our faith. Yet again we are reminded of the moral behind the story Hikayat Faridah Hanum by the pioneering Ulama Syed Sheikh al-Hady that was written almost a century ago. Regarded until today as one of the earliest works of realist fiction in Malaysian literature, the Hikayat Faridah Hanum was also one of the pioneering feminist texts of its time. Its theme was the struggle for love by Faridah Hanum, a young woman whose ‘crime’ was to want to decide for herself who should be the man she loves. Faridah’s wilful act of defiance and assertion of her rational agency was seen as an affront to traditional values. Then in one episode of the story she is in secluded company with another single man – and thereby committing the dreaded crime of khalwat.

For this reason alone, Syed Sheikh al-Hady was condemned by his conservative peers as a pornographer and his novel was even burned in public. One wonders how the morality police of today would react to a contemporary reading and re-enactment of Faridah Hanum’s tale of a young heart struggling against bigotry and obscurantism in the search for love? Or would she, too, be handcuffed and taken to a faith rehabilitation centre, one wonders?

That ‘khalwat’ is a term also used by Sufi mystics to denote the state of private and secluded meditation in the presence of the Divine would also point to its intimate connections with the ideas of Love, contact and the bond between human beings and God. That ‘khalwat’ today is taken as the flimsiest pretext to let the morality police smash through the door of your house to arrest you speaks volumes about how degenerate our understanding of morality has become.

For too long we Malaysians have been policed, guarded, scolded and herded into living in our narrow ethno-religious corrals; and for too long the very idea of reaching out and loving the other has been seen as taboo. With a new Malaysia about to rise above the horizon, one of the bad habits of the past that we should discard should be this practice of criminalising love, even of the hot, sticky and sweet variety. And if there is any policing of bodies that needs to be done, perhaps the authorities would be spending their time (and taxpayers money) better by policing those who go around blowing up bodies with C4 instead.

This man never fails to amaze me. He's right. Malaysian religious authorities' obsession is really irritating. Like Dane Cook.

Ministry wants Local Women Going Abroad Alone to Get Family Consent

KUALA KLAWANG: Local women intending to travel abroad alone may need family consent in a bid to prevent them from being used as “drug mules” by international syndicates.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said a proposal to this effect would be made soon to the Cabinet, following several incidents where women were used to smuggle drugs overseas.

Out of 119 cases of Malaysian women hauled up before foreign courts, 90% were linked to drugs, he said.

“Last night, my ministry, together with the Home Ministry, have jointly forwarded a report to the Cabinet on the matter.

“Both ministries agreed that factors like family, religion, immigration laws and preventive measures need to be considered before a Malaysian woman goes abroad alone,” Rais told reporters after officiating at the Malaysian Silambam Association's Jelebu branch here yesterday.

On the proposed requirement for family consent, he said it would enable the woman's family to monitor her departure and serve as a preventive measure against her being duped by international drug syndicates. – Bernama

The thing is, I think these are really interesting ads and a pretty great statement. THAT SAID, MTV has played a large part in creating the apathy of today's youth. Shows like Super Sweet Sixteen and all the other bullshit they present, I mean they've turned "stupid spoiled whore" into a goal, a fashion statement, and their entire core audience is therefore too stupid to actually understand these ads anyway.

However, bigger balls to MTV Asia for importing these ads. But beware, the 4th floor boys may force MTV Asia to stop showing these ads here!

No matter how evil the ISA is, do not repeal it

Living in Malaysia for 17 years, i have never seen deadly riots ala LA 1992 or France 2005. I have never seen a leader assasinated the same way Juvénal Habyarimana, Rafik Hariri, Indira Gandhi and Benazir Bhutto were. I have never seen Indians chopping Malay heads, nor have i seen Chinese people burning Indian homes.

But what if i did? Who will be responsible? What can be done?

Those are three questions that has led to the creation of the ISA. After May 13 1969, the ISA is set up so that such event won't happen again.

In the cases of Ops Lalang and the HINDRAF 5, i know it's unfair for journalists, activists, and politicians to be locked in Kamunting and get shitted ala Shawshank Redemption, but that doesn't mean the ISA should be repealed. Sure, the mistreatment was unfair, but we can change that.

I support street rallies hold by Bersih, UMNO Youth or any organisations. I support the causes of HINDRAF because it's the best way for the MIC to reform itself. However, street demonstrations must be held in a civilised and orderly manner just like Anonymous and Stop the War Coalition, and the protestors must be responsible for their own actions. I don't want street demonstrations to be turned into riots. I don't want shops and businesses being destroyed. I don't want this country to have a bad worldwide image. If such happens, where do i look up to? Ofcourse, i look up to the ISA.

In the wake of the DAP and the Pakatan Rakyat calling for the repeal of the ISA, here's an advice: Don't repeal it, but reform it. Being the son of a journalist who witnessed Ops Lalang, i say let's make things better. Let's change the ISA. Give more freedom, more trials and less punishment. Give its detainess a sunlight. We don't want a South East Asian Guantanamo Bay. We want the ISA to be a lesson for May 13. Let me tell you this: If Lim Kit Siang/Abdul Hadi Awang/Anwar Ibrahim is the new PM, none will repeal the ISA. Why? Because street riots always happen in every country, and the only way they could control the populi is throught he ISA.

Raja Petra released after 2-hour "interview"

RPK, who runs the Malaysia Today on-line, said the Commercial Crime Division of Bukit Aman had asked him to make a statement with regards to his posting headlined "Let's send Altantuya murderers to Hell".
He refused to make that statement, of course.
The cops gave up (for now, at least) after two hours.
RPK was accompanied by his lawyer, YB William Leong, the MP of Selayang.
Scores of journalists, bloggers and Malaysia Today supporters waited at the entrance of the Bukit Aman.
The MP of Wangsa Maju, YB Wee Choo Keong, arrived just after 5pm. After a brief discussion with Marina, RPK's wife, Wee told her he would try and meet the cops. He asked me to accompany him. Wee took offence when the sentry on duty stepped in front of him and blocked his progress with an elbow.
"Wah, is this a police state now? I don't think we are a police state. Are we a police state?" Wee challenged the sentry's superiors. He said the sentry treated him like a criminal.
"If you can do this to an wakil rakyat," he continued, "what chance does the average citizen," he said, pointing at me, "your guard there will kick him out, hah?"
That's YB Wee for you!

Raja Petra said the cops still had his lap top and computer. He confirmed that he was being investigated under Sedition Act.

"For two hours they tried to make me make a statement. I refused. They threatened to charge me for refusing to make a statement. I told them, go ahead and arrest me or release me right now. And i told them that if they let me walk, I don't want to see their faces again."

RPK being investigated under The Sedition Act

At 9.00am today, seven police officers from the Cyber Crime Division, Bukit Aman, went to Raja Petra’s house to confiscate his PC and notebook computer. They left at 11.00am after issuing Raja Petra a notice to report to Bukit Aman at 11.00am tomorrow, Saturday, 3 May 2008.

According to the police, Raja Petra is being investigated under the Sedition Act with regards to an article he wrote, Let’s send the Altantuya murderers to hell (http://www.malaysia-today.net/2008/content/view/6604/84/). It seems a police report has been made against Raja Petra by another police officer.

The Bukit Aman Cyber Crime Division is at Kompleks Perdana, the old office of the Prime Minister behind Bank Negara. We have no further news but Raja Petra will try to update the latest developments once he can get his hand on a new computer.

THE illegitimate children of evil dad Josef Fritzl will have their identities changed, a police spokesman said today.

Cops said the three kids who were locked in a dungeon in an Austrian home would have their names changed so they can live new lives.

Today DNA tests on the 73-year-old Austrian, who has confessed to locking his daughter in a windowless cellar for 24 years, confirm that he is the father of her seven children.

And Austrian hospital officials said members of the Fritzl family were reunited on Sunday and the scene was �astonishing.�

Fritzl appeared before a judge in St Poelten, the provincial capital of Lower Austria, today.

The judge ordered that police keep him in detention while inquiries continue.

Officials said Fritzl said nothing on the advice of his lawyer.

He was calm when he arrived yesterday and was put in a cell where he can be monitored in case he tries to commit suicide, said Guenther Moerwald, head of St Poelten prison.

According to reports, Fritzl has a previous conviction for sexual assault and arson, and he allegedly spent time in prison in the late 1960s.

Austrian prosecutors said that they were aware of the allegations and were trying to trace the records in court archives.

As Fritzl continues to be questioned by Austrian police today, a leading question was how what went on in the house passed unnoticed for so long, particularly as Fritzl built extensions to the cellar.

"This is an appalling crime. I know of no comparable case in Austria," said Franz Prucher, head of security in Lower Austria.

Police in the Austrian town of Amstetten — 80 miles west of Vienna — had to negotiate a string of electronically locked iron trapdoors to reach the dungeon.

The first pictures of the warren beneath 73-year-old Fritzl’s house at 40 Ybbs Strasse showed the children’s pitiful attempts to make it a home.

Octopus stickers and glittery stars adorned the white-tiled walls of a windowless �bathroom�.

On a cabinet above a grim sink stood a toy elephant.

Fritzl, a retired engineer who was remanded in custody by a court yesterday after confessing all to police, kept carving out more rooms in his secret dungeon as his subterranean �family� grew.

The floorspace eventually reached 60 square yards — extending under the garden.

He is believed to have used his bare hands, making frequent visits to builders for materials. Foam insulation was used for sound-proofing.

But the passages linking the rooms were stiflingly narrow.

And horrifically, the rooms were barely 5�ft high — meaning that as the children grew they could never even stand up straight.

Mercedes-driving Fritzl, who rented out ground floor rooms at his main house, was seen as a pillar of respectability despite having been jailed in the 1960s for sex assault and arson.

As a strict disciplinarian there were rumours he beat his children. But neighbours were dazed as the extent of his sadism emerged.

Fritzl was arrested after Kerstin — the oldest of the dungeon children — fell ill and Elisabeth begged that she be taken to hospital.

Medics baffled by the teenager’s condition pleaded for her mystery mother to come forward to give a medical history.

By this time Fritzl — realising his depravity was about to be exposed — had finally freed his captives.

He and traumatised Elisabeth, 42, were said to have been picked up near the hospital.

Frantic Fritzl had told his wife Rosemarie — a PTA member at their adopted children’s school — that their daughter had suddenly decided to come home.

But Elisabeth was giving appalled police a version of events they could scarcely believe.

She told them how her father began abusing her at the age of 11 — then in 1984 reported her missing. In reality, Elisabeth — then aged 18 — had been drugged, manacled and taken to her new life in the dungeon.

Last night it was unclear why she alone among the seven children Fritzl had with Rosemarie was targeted.

Police said the wife was blithely unaware of what was happening.

She was seen as the perfect mum to her own children and those who later turned up on the doorstep.

Police have not quizzed her as a suspect — and last night she was comforting family members over the collective trauma.

Asked if Rosemarie could have known anything, Austrian police chief Franz Polzer said: �Do you think any wife in the world would be able to accept that kind of behaviour?�

A source close to the inquiry said: �The story is one of the utmost depravity. It defies belief.

�Fritzl had two families — one respectable above ground and another living in the dark like animals in his dungeon.�

The source added: �He exercised an astonishing level of control over his own family to fulfil his terrible desires.�

The three children apparently abandoned were all well-adjusted, normal kids who played in a local ice hockey league.

They used to call gran Rosemarie �Mami� and locals believe they did not even know she was not their real mum.

Meanwhile the dungeon children — taught to talk, read and write by Elisabeth — were fed through a hatch by Fritzl.

A TV was one of their few luxuries. As forensic teams spent yesterday crouched in the gloomy dungeon, police described it as a �Hobbit’s lair�. It was said to include a padded torture room.

Specialist teams were called in to check for booby traps — because Fritzl warned his captives his trapdoors were wired with explosives.

Police also scoured his garden for the ashes of the baby he burnt. Top cop Franz Polzer said of Fritzl’s vile lust: �He was an extraordinarily sexually potent man.�

Last week, two people passed away in respect & honour. One is the James Dean of the Dance music scene, and the other is a poet who's also a fellow blogger & a true nationalist.

Barry Connell is one of the newest faces to watch in dance music in 2008. Considered to be "The James Dean of the electronic music scene", he is the new major force for the UK's house and hard dance scene. 2 weeks ago he and Judge Jules played live at Glasgow, and is considered to be one of the best raves in the UK for 2008. You can listen to it here.

Connell was a resident at Goodgreef from 2005 and looked to be set for a great year with various bookings around the world.

Our thoughts are with his fiancé Amanda and let's hope he'll continue rave on right now in heaven.

Described as one of Malaysia's leading intellectuals, he has served on Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Malaya and the Institute of Strategic and International Studies.

In the late 1980s, he was awarded the prestigious Hadiah Sastera Negara (National Literary Award).

Blogger Anil Netto, in his tribute, noted that Rustam had just completed two books - Failed Nation: Concerns of a Malaysian Nationalist and Social Roots of the Malay Left.

His blogs are Vox Populi and Suara Ku. May Allah rest him and DJ Barry in peace.

'I'm sad I upset non-Malays'

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein yesterday apologised for drawing a kris at the Umno general assembly in 2005 and 2006, acknowledging that the act had upset non-Malays.
"Today, we saw many things being talked about in earnest among the delegates," he said after chairing the first Barisan Nasional youth meeting since the general election last month.

"This included the issue of the Panca Warisan kris. I told them, I am responsible for what happened if it had in any way affected our performance.

"I apologise if this has affected anybody. I apologise to the non-Malays if they felt afraid of the symbol.

"To the Malays, I also apologise because I cannot defend the symbol of our heritage."
Hishammuddin said the issue was not as big as it was made out to be.

"But the reality is such, and I am not someone who is so filled with pride or arrogance that I cannot accept this fact.

"This is a sad lesson. However, if the dictates of politics are such, then we as leaders must embrace it and place our position in the Barisan Nasional above all else."

The Panca Warisan kris, which is kept at the Umno Youth headquarters, is ceremoniously carried into the hall at the start of every Umno general assembly.

In the past, the Umno Youth chief would, at the start of the assembly, unsheath the blade and kiss it before holding it up in the air. The kris would then be placed on a pedestal.

The raising and kissing of the kris at the assembly in 2005 and 2006 created an uproar among non-Malays, particularly those in MCA and Gerakan.

Hishammuddin announced that there would be greater cooperation among BN component parties, including those in Sabah and Sarawak. They would now meet once every two weeks.

"They have a lot of experience handling people from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds and can play a central role in the future," he said.

Meanwhile, MCA Youth chief Datuk Liow Tiong Lai, who also attended the meeting, said the delegates had discussed the kris issue.

"The kris will be there, but we from the Chinese community hope that it will not be raised. Hishammuddin made a brave decision to rethink the issue and to apologise."

Anwar: 'I'll be PM in three years'

Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia's opposition leader, has said he will be prime minister within three years, sketching out a dramatic political comeback.

"I don't think we have established a definite, clear timeframe when I will take over [as prime minister] but it certainly wouldn't reach three years ... much earlier than that," he said.

"[But] I am not in a rush," he told AFP news agency.

Anwar has emerged as a serious threat to the ruling coalition after the opposition's strong showing in March parliamentary polls.

Once the heir-apparent to long-time former premier, Mahathir Mohamad, Anwar was sacked from his post of deputy prime minister in 1998 and jailed for six years.

He became free to run for office again last week, when a five-year ban stemming from his corruption conviction expired. He now says he has the support of enough defectors to topple the government.

The Barisan Nasional coalition has ruled Malaysia for more than half a century since the former colony gained independence from the UK, but has been rocked by its unprecedented electoral setback in March.

Strong showing

The Pakatan Rakyat opposition alliance claimed more than a third of parliamentary seats and five states in the polls, putting Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the prime minister, under heavy pressure.

Anwar, 60, pledged more effective governance and steps to wipe out corruption and promote racial equality.

"Our reform programme will certainly be more secure. We will push for a market economy, judicial independence and equality for all Malaysians," he said.

Anwar also repeated his claim that politicians from Sabah and Sarawak provinces had indicated interest in defecting from the ruling coalition to the opposition.

"Lawmakers in the two states in Borneo island have approached me about switching sides, but so far none has declared their intentions publicly," he said.

In eastern Sabah state, Anwar said coalition politicians could change allegiance before August after being sworn in at the end of April.

"It's all a matter of timing. Let parliament resume and they are sworn in as MPs [on April 28].... It could be the month after or by August," he said.

Anwar will travel to Sarawak on Thursday to rally support for the opposition and to press his own claims for power.

Growing support

Analysts have backed Anwar's statement that he has enough support to rule, saying turmoil in the ruling coalition could hasten an exodus and propel him to power.

Abdullah is facing growing demands to quit, but has defiantly claimed a mandate to rule and refused to discuss a succession plan.

Anwar had previously been expected to re-enter parliament quickly through a by-election in one of the seats held by his Keadilan party, but says he is in no hurry to act and will instead focus on building up the opposition.

Anwar is getting more deluded and too over-confident with his opposition. But let's face reality: Why would any Malaysian wants a pro-Neocon, Ming the Merciless-creep as the PM?

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said today that PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as “Making a political move, a man very unpopular trying to do something ‘right’. He is making use of the system in the worse way”, when reacting to the suggestion of the Prime Minsiter attempting to “make good against the Judiciary”, which was purportedly damaged during the former’s time.

Talking to Stephen Sackur in a BBC “Hardtalk” first aired this afternoon, who described him as “A personified fellow”. The program was taped in London on Friday, 18 April 2008, was his first interview on air in a foreign media since the 12th Malaysia General Elections on 8 March 2008.

He said “Results of the GE shows former supporters of the ruling party (BN), voted Oppositions, not because they like them!”. When asked for the reason, the stern response was “The Government promised to remove corruption but they themselves are corrupt”. He also explained that PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah must go now because the next leader needed time to revive the party and the support.

On the New Economic Policy, “It was a system placed by his predecessors. The system worked for 50 years and worked very well. it is to correct the imbalance created since the British days”. Sackur asked about the dissatisfaction from different ethic groups in the country and charged Malaysia, especially in Tun Dr. Mahathir’s time practiced racial biased policies and now no longer relevant nor acceptable. His response was “Malaysia is built for all. Everyone is prosperous. All benefited from the Government policies and progressed. Why only now all these are surfacing?”.

Then Sackur charged if people were to voice out aginst him then, they would be arrested. “Hundreds of people were arrested?”. Tun Dr. Mahathir’s instant response, “Who are they?” and contradicting the host with “The first thing I did as the Prime Minister, was to release many political detainees”. He the added that foreign media is fond of making up these stories and end up propagating them as “the truth”.

In the case of Anwar Ibrahim, when asked to comment about having the support of many and even BN MPs ready to defect, and wanted to make changes in the system, including racially based policies “He is welcomed to do that, when he becomes to the PM” and added “The present leadership should be blamed for losing support of the BN MPs”.

On issues raised by Anwar, which is favourable to the minority groups “Opportunism for him, now. He was in Government before. He did not complain”. Then the issue about his arrest and conviction was trumped up and now proposing that the former regretted on that episode “Why should I regret? He was arrested and locked up for abuse of power. This is accordance to the Malaysian law”. Sackur then added that Anwar wanted to do a full and thorough public inquiry for all Tun Dr. Mahathir’s wrong doings in the 22 years in office, he responded with sarcasm, “Lets see him so a fully impartial inquiry. Probably he can get foreigners”.

When responding to Sackur’s list of Western report of unfair trial for Anwar, Tun Dr. Mahathir asked in return “What are the track record of these countries? The are the sort of people who hold people without trial, like Guantamo Bay”. Then the issue was raised about the Internal Security Act, which was a put in place as Emergency Ordinance by the British. “We did it under the law of the country. We need to prevent people from causing racial riot and disharmony”.

On the move by PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah making ex-gratia payments to dismissed Lord President Tun Mohamed Salleh Abas and five Supreme Court Judges, “A political move by a man very unpopular, trying to do “something right”. He is making use of the system in worse way!”. What he did not say was, none of the members of the bench attended the Bar Council dinner where PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah made the announcement.

The debate when on towards democracy. “Democracy is good when the leader is good. It was a leader of a democratic country who dropped atomic bombs”.

Sackur then charged him as being ‘Anti Semitic’ and the instant response was “Anti Semitism is something created by the Jews themselves”. He then related to the earlier issue of democracy “There are journalist who were arrested for talking about the Holocaust. Where is the ‘Freedom of Press’ then?”.

The interview was ended when he was asked, whether he will contunue to attack the Leadership and Government, “Why should I be quiet, when they are doing something wrong to my country?”.

The wide ranging 30 minute program, was a really good interview, indeed.

There has been significant shifts in social attitudes, behaviours and institutional regulations surrounding sexuality since Freud opened the door to the bedroom. Sexuality throughout the 20th century has moved closer to the centre of public debate than ever before. One hundred years ago the idea of sexual politics would have been unthinkable. For many in the lecture today the 1960s which unleashed the so called sexual revolution seems more a source of comic relief and tragic nostalgic recirculation than political inspiration. Throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s the combination of student protests, counter culture movements and medically prescribed contraceptives ushered in a decisive break with the preceding values which prescribed confinement of women’s sexual pleasure within the suburban walls of heterosexual marriage and the regulation of man’s sexuality in the public. D.H Lawrence may have shocked an earlier generation with Lady Chatterley’s extramarital sexual independence, but it was not until the 1970s that women’s sexuality outside marriage became widely accepted.

Those were the words of the 1960s. In the time of Johnson's Vietnam stupidity and post-McCarthyist self-individuality, Americans & Brits looks toward a new form of enlightenment: Sex. The age of the hippie where a women can choose their man without any of the 1950's "perfectionist" criteria being shoved down their throats. If the 50's show that women choose their husband through criterias like money, looks and a happy suburban life, then in the 60's women choose choose their men through three things: Freedom, Personality and Sex.

However, here in Malaysia it's pretty much still the 50's by social terms. Girls choose their men by money and looks rather than personality. Got a nice car? You get a girlfriend. Handsome looks? Get a girlfriend. Lots of money? Get a girlfriend. Personality? Sense of humour? Good heart? Not needed.

Which is why most Malaysian girls you see are dating guys who are douchebags with long-hairs. I'm not generalising, but i'm being honest. A sexual revolution means that girls choose men by personality, freedom & sex. You don't need good looks, you don't need money, all you need is to have a good personality & be good in bed.

The hippies of the 60s may not have looks and money, but they are orgy-makers of all kinds. Most of these hippies were jocks, nerds, cheerleaders and such that were tired of the 50's conformist love model. They wanted men that could make them laugh rather than having good looks. They wanted men that could please them from the inside rather than from outside. That's sexual revolution.

And this is what Malaysia should be doing. A Malaysian sexual revolution would not just change a woman's view on men, but would also increase sexual productivity to a point Mahathir wanted by 2050. And not just that, it may reduce the chance of dumb MPs saying sexist things like 'bocor', and a sexual revolution would also give more role to for the Ministry of Women, Family & Community Development. Sure, Malaysian women are now free in terms of general feminism like equality & jobs, but in social feminist terms like sexual desires and long-term happiness, they are not free.

A school girl from a high school in Malaysia may have a boyfriend who is as gorgeous as Pete Wentz and has all the money as a result of his father who's a Datuk. But, he may be a douchebag on the inside, who has no sense of humour and no nice-guy attitude personality whatsoever. And the girl may have a crush on a guy who's nice and funny, but is too shy to like because he's not handsome and is not as rich as his current boyfriend.

We know the suffering you girls have. You girls wanted a man who's funny and nice, and decided to go for the douchebag because he has the looks and he's rich. I mean, if a girl goes for the handsome-less then other people will perceive you as a freak. I know, because i have seen dumb mistakes girls have made when i was in Cempaka. And for the lonely guys who can't get a girlfriend because he's not rich nor handsome: We know your pain. But you must know that the girl who's dating the handsome guy whom you envied may have a crush on you. Why? Because she knows that you're funny and has a nice personality, but she's too ashamed to admit that.

But that will soon change. Why? Because Malaysia will have a sexual revolution. That will be the day when girls would choose a guy for the sake of personality & sex rather than the looks & money. We will have that revolution. Don't worry guys. Your time will come.

And yes, in the issue of Islam, we know sex is a taboo. But taboos are culture and not religion. Islam does not oppose sex but they do oppose public flashing and anything pro-Wicker Man. But if you're looking for a Muslim who endorses sexual revolution through an Islamic point of view, then look no further to this lady:

The New York Times' City Room blog reports that CNN International business and travel reporter Richard Quest has been arrested on drug charges:

Mr. Quest was arrested early Friday morning after being escorted out of Central Park for violating the park curfew, a law enforcement official said Friday. The park is closed from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

The police noticed Mr. Quest at 64th Street and West Drive at about 3:40 a.m., the official said. As he was being escorted out, he volunteered, "I have meth in my pocket," according to an official briefed on the case. The police searched him and recovered a small amount of methamphetamine in a Ziploc bag.

Govt study: Youngsters just ain’t patriotic

BACHOK: A recent Government study has revealed that patriotism levels among youth in the country have declined significantly and if left unchecked, could lead to serious consequences for nation building.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the revelation has forced the ministry to re-look its policy on how to engage youth.

The Government has admitted it has lost the support of youths and has been unable to reach out to the technology-savvy generation, he said.

“We need to adapt to changing needs and lifestyles. For starters, we need to re-instil patriotism in youths regardless of their ethnicity or religious backgrounds,'' he said during his inaugural working visit to the east coast state.

Earlier, he held dialogues with youth department officers and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at the youth skills institute here.

Ismail said the ministry would now be “result-orientated” with a specific goal of restoring confidence among the young in the Government.

This would include the ministry setting up its own blog as well as channelling funds directly to all youth associations, including youth-based NGOs in the country.

“We have decided to reduce bureaucracy. From now on, all funding for youth NGOs and associations will come directly from the ministry.

Look, we youth are NOT unpatriotic! Mr. Yaakob, you consider one of the causes being that the government has not reached out enough leads me to suspect that there is again the common misconception on these ultra-conservative part about equating loyalty to the state with loyalty to the government.

Look, we we are Malaysians, love Malaysia and we always wave our flag and represent ourselves in foreign lands. But we have the right to question what the hell the government is doing. It's not unpatriotic, it's just that we're exercising our rights as long as it's not seditious. Since when is exercising freedom considered unpatriotic? Does that mean Malaysians youths deserve to be sent to an ISA internment camp?

Oh, and please stop using the "we're doing it too because it's cool" tactic. Stop it. Okay, so maybe it's a good thing for the government to have blogs, but seriously, will the youth ever bother to read it? Will your blog be as interesting as Kenny Sia or Jeff Ooi? Look, we youths are no longer Rakan Muda/Dewan Pelajar types anymore. If you can prove to us that your blog is as hip as other blogs like Kenny Sia and such, then we wouldn't mind reading it.

However, we do have other things to do like reading KLue magazine, listening to a hitz.fm Gotcha! call, shuffling with a crew, visiting rave parties to check out the hottest DJ, lepak at Bangsar or 1 Utama, checking out the recent Douglas Lim stand up at the Actor's Studio Bangsar, and more hip things we youths do other than reading blogs. We have 1001 things we do in our free time, Mr. Yaakob. All you need to do is to read an issue of KLue magazine.

An idea for Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg's next movie

Over the past few years I've taken a lot of pot shots at Mr Seltzer and Mr Friedberg. But you know something, that's a classic case of "being a hater". Why should I begrudge their success?. Why should I be bothered by their annual "fleecing of suckers". So from now on, I want to help them. While waiting for the teacher to arrive here in the class, i have a new idea for their next movie. It's called Oscar Movie. They've stuck it to the rom-coms. They've nailed the blockbusters. They left 300 out to dry. Now it's time for them to tackle all those snooty films the Oscars tell us we should like and take those films down a peg or two. Within reason, of course. Asking the average Friedberg/Seltzer fan to process an Antonement reference or a Babel reference is asking too much. So is referencing any Oscar movie older that three years,

Here is the plot. An undercover cop named Leonardo di Costigan has infiltrated the crime syndicate of corrupt oil tycoon, Daniel Day Plainview. His superior officers are Detective Charliesdad and Detective Markymark. Little do they know is that Daniel Day Plainview has his own rat in the police force named Detective Rat Damon (the voice over narration helpfully informs us that he is "that guy from Good Will Hunting").

The movie proper starts when Leonardo di Costigan gets a job and Daniel Day Plainview's corner drugstore. We are introduced to Plainview when he comes in and proceeds to drink everybody's milkshake. He takes somebody's milkshake, says "I...drink...your...milkshake", then he slurps it up and then say, "I drink it up!" Repeat this about five or six times. Then Leonardo di Costigan turns to the camera and says "we're really milking this gag". We then cut to a Tom Green lookalike in the drugstore. He is milking a cow. He turns toward's the Daniel Day Plainview character and says "Danny would you like some sausage? Danny would you like some sausage? Danny would you like some sausage?" (The twist of that joke is that the movie is spoofing Oscar movies, but we work in a Freddie Got Fingered reference. And that, Mr. Seltzer and Mr. Friedberg, is that classic comedy staple known as irony).

Plainview turns to the Tom Green clone and says "You're no son of mine. I have no idea how I met your mother". A clone of the cast of How I Met Your Mother enters the drugstore. The Neil Patrick Harris lookalike, wearing a button that says NPH on it to clearly identify him, blows Leonardo a kiss. This is a clever reference to the fact that Niel Patrick Harris is gay. Plainview turns to the Alyson Hannigan clone and asks, "weren't you in Date Movie." She responds, "this one time...in Date Movie..." Tom Green's cow leaps up and they have a Matrix style fight (a sharp reference to Kung Pow: Enter the Fist). The scene ends when Leonardo di Costigan and Daniel Day Plainview do a double take and they both ask each other "Weren't you in Gangs of New York?"

Later, Leonardo di Costigan learns that Plainview has sent out a hit man named Gayhaircut Chigger. You may want to have the narrator inform the audience that he is named that because his character has a gay haircut. It's a cerebral joke, I know, but you need to include something for everybody. Now insead of using a compressed air cattle gun, Chigger kills people by using a taser. And everytime he tasers somebody, they plead "don't tase me, bro". And as you know, this is what we refer to in the comedy business as a "running gag".

So Gayhaircut Chigger is out in the Texas wilderness trying to retrieve $2,000,000 worth of drug money stolen by Josh Wasbrandwalshinthegoonies. He runs into two gay cowboys named Jack Limpwrist and Ennis Del Gay. They love Gayhaircut Chigger's gay haircut and says a lot of gay things to him and tries to kiss him. Basically, in this ten minute scene, they act gay and they talk gay and gay gay gay gay gay gay gay. Jack Limpwrist tries to win Gayhaircut Chigger over by singing "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls. Now this is a very subtle joke, so you need the narrator to explain to us that he is doing this because it's "just like Jake Gyllenhall did on Saturday Night Live". And just before Jack Limpwrist grabs Gayhaircut Chigger's butt, a six-foot rabbit appears and scares him away. Again, this is a subtle joke, so you need to give the rabbit a line of dialogue like "I am coming for you Donnie Darko".

This leaves Ennis Del Gay by hemself. But only for a moment because an Indian, a biker, a sailor and Detective Markymark in street cop uniform show up. They sing "YMCA". The song ends when we cut to a Philip Seymour Hoffman charcater dressed up like Capote and says "now this is what I call a party". It may help to have the narrator explain to your fans that he is the "gay author Truman Capote played by that fat redhead from all those Paul Thomas Anderson" movies. The narrator will then have to explain that Paul Thomas Anderson directed There Will Be Blood and that porno movie with Marky Mark". Then cut to Detective Markymark and we see that he has a huge bulge in his pants that runs the entire length of his leg. Carmen Electra shows up and blows in his ear. This gets no reaction from him. Ennis Del Gay blows him a kiss. Det Markymark's leg lifts up in the air as his penis tucked into his pants leg gets an erection.

Now Gayhaircut Chigger is despondent about being accused of being gay so he goes to get a haircut. He stops by the local barber shop which is run by a Johnny Depp lookalike named Weeny Toad. Now get this. The Weeny Toad character sings every line of dialogue. And his neighbor is a baker named Helena Bonham Timburtonswife who sings "he looks good enough to eat". Gayhaircut Chigger keeps pleading "stop singing. For the love of God, stop singing" So Weeny Toad and Helena Bonham Timburtonswife break out into rap instead and do the entire "Dick in a Box" number. Chigger flees from the Barbershop (but not before an Ice Cube clone tell him "next time, come to a real barbershop, yo") and runs into a Britney Spears lookalike making out with a Adnan Ghalib lookalike. He tases them both. Adnan says "don't tase me, bro" but Britney instead says "don't tase me, bro, y'all". Then RickRoll shows up and starts singing. He gets tased and he sings "don't tase me, bro". Then a Mel Gibson clone shows up and says "the Jews are responsible for all wars, Sugart!ts!" and after Chigger tases him, a hasidic Jew kicks him in the nards. And the hilarity doesnt stop there. Think of all the other people you can have him tase. It will be the "pit of death" sequence from Meet the Spartans times eleventy. Michael Vick (while "Who Let The Dogs Out" plays in the background), Andy Dick ("I'll put the Phil Hartman curse on you"), Michael Richards (dressed up in klansman robes), the list goes on.

We go back to Leonardo di Costigan, who is now working at Daniel Day Plainview's liquor store. First a Lindsay Lohan comes in to buy alcohol. She drinks from a bottle of Vodka as she insists "I've stopped drinking, I swear". A scrawny, nerdy kid with an obvious fake ID shows up to buy booze. His ID shows that his name is McHumpin. A Jonah Hill lookalike steps into the Liquor store and says "Are you *beep*ing this up, you *beep* *beep* *beep*". The audience will remember that Jonah Hill cursed a lot in Superbad and recognize the constant beeping as humor. So a cop comes in and it's a Seth Rogan lookalike. He is followed by a Katherine Heigl lookalike who tells him, "hey officer, you got me....Knocked Up". An Ellen Page lookalike enters, wearing a t-shirt that says "My name is Mayo" and says "My eggo is preggo, too. Honest to blog. This is one doodle that can't be undid". And everybody tells her to shut up. The Seth Rogan points out that Mayo talks like her dialogue was written by a stripper blogger named after the Spanish word for the devil. This is another one of those clever, obscure jokes. So after that, we cut to Mayo on the imdb ("I'm sooo imdb'ing that ref") showing that the screenwriter's name is Diablo Cody. The narrator will then inform us that "diablo" is Spanish for "devil". Hopefully by then, your fans will have finally processed the joke.

The big climax. We are in Plainview's mansion. He has passed out in the bowling alley in his own house. He is awaken by somebody screaming "over the line, Plainview". He looks up and sees a Jeff Bridges lookalike, a John Goodman lookalike and a John Turturro looklike". The John Goodman characters says "you're drinking on Shomer Shabbas?" The John Turturro lookalike says "don't ever mess with the Jesus". Leonardo di Costigan shows up and says "we have enough on you to lock you up forever, Plainview". Plainview says, "Oh yeah?" And out comes a George Clooney lookalike. He tells Leonardo di Costigan "my name is Michael Clayton. I am his inhouse fixer. And you have no evidence of Plainview's illegal oil deals with Syriana. So Good night and good luck". Then Det. Rat Damon shows up pointing his gun at Costigan and says "I'm really good at math". He's followed by Gayhaircut Chigger, now with an afro, tossing a coin in the air, saying "call it".

The ceiling caves in crushing Daniel Day Plainview, Michael Clayton, Gayhaircut Chigger and Rat Damon. The John Goodman clone screams out "this is what happens when you have fun with a stranger in the alps", although the line of dialogue is clearly dubbed over what he is really saying. We see that the ceiling caved in because the attic was filled with rats. One of the rats turns to the camera and says "Anyone can cook, bee-yotch!!!!"

As Leonardo di Costigan leaves the mansion, he is run over by a bus being driven by Amy Winehouse.

This is followed by twenty minutes of ending credits.

Tengku Faris: Non-Malays should not seek equality

Kelantan Crown Prince Tengku Faris Petra said today that Malays had been coerced into giving non-Malays citizenship and the latter should therefore not seek equality or special treatment.

He said this during his keynote speech at a forum titled “Malay unity is the core of national unity” organised by the newly formed Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu in Kuala Lumpur today.

Speaking to a crowd of about 1,000 people, Tengku Faris said the Malay rulers would be an umbrella to foster unity among all Malaysians, based on the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara.

“Therefore, the rakyat must unite and never raise issues regarding Malay rights and special privileges because it is a quid pro quo in gratitude for the giving in of citizenship (beri-paksa kerakyatan) to 2.7 million non-Malays into the Tanah Melayu federation.

“Thus, it is not appropriate for these other ethnic groups to have citizenship, only (later) to seek equality and privileges,” said Tengku Faris, who read from a 11-page prepared text.

However, the crown prince stressed that in an effort to unite the Malays, non-Malays also have rights that must be protected, such as in areas of religion.

As an example, Tengku Faris said non-Malays are allowed to practice their respective religions in peace. They must however do so in accordance with the law and “not be provocative towards Islam”.

“The Malay rulers are the head of the Islamic religion and Malaysia is a Islamic country (negara Islam), not secular. We have our own formula (as a country) which is different from others,” he added, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd.

‘Dominance’

He added that the effort to instil Malay unity and defend Malay special rights does not mean that other races would be ignored.

“In fact, if Malay rights and special privileges are taken care of and is not disturbed, it would ensure national harmony. It does not just benefit the Malays but all ethnic groups,” he said.

In his speech, Tengku Raris said the 12th General Election results have shown that the Malays are being “challenged” and thus Malays unity is of the outmost priority.

“The election results have shown that the Malays are disunited and facing other ethnic groups who are more dominant politically and economically,” he said.

As the constitution provides that the Malays are the natives (penduduk asal) of Malaysia, Tengku Faris said every Malay must defend the constitution and Islam and this can only be achieved through Malay unity.

“We have to make an effort to unite. Don’t spilt up. Avoid polemics that can distance us. Ideology (and) having different interpretations does not contribute to Malay unity.

“Discussing about polemics such as Islamic state, secular state, welfare state... confuses the people... Resulting from this confusion, Malays are becoming more disillusioned,” he added.

Which history book did HRH read which states unequivocally that the Malays were coerced into granting citizenship to the non-Malays?

And where on earth in the Federal Constitution does it provide that the Malays are the penduduk asal of our beloved tanahair?

Did our royalties went to sleep & live next to Nick Griffin when they were in Oxbridge?

Okay, i have nothing to report on Malaysian news today. And i won't bother reporting the KLIA robbery because you can just witness the whole event by watching Die Hard 2.

However, i'd like to rant about random things:

1.To the pro-Tibet protestors protesting the torch run, fuck off!

We do not care about your cause! Do not involve Tibet in the Olympics issue! The Olympics is a sports event that brings people together, and it's trying its best to prevent politics from reaching Olympics. And you guys are involving a political issue into a sports event! Politics and the Olympics should not be involved, and that is what we humans wanted to see. The US boycotted the USSR Olympics, and now this? Just fuck off and let everything run smoothly, please?

2.A YouTube user named 90sHouseTunes has annoyed the shit out of me, and i along with other YouTubers totally hate him

Now, recently there has been comments by this annoying user called 90sHouseTunes who's been mocking videos on YouTube in the comemnts section, especially those are related to dance music, The Melbourne shuffle & Panasonic CDJ. Now i don't know what is his problem. So he loves house music, he loves vinyls, but he seems to have a vendetta against CDJs and the shuffle. I know that the internet is a free democracy where you can say whatever you want, but criticising the shuffle and the CDJ in a way that pisses other people off makes 90sHouseTunes aka you, the unlikable twat. Now you love house music, you love the 90s, you love vinyl. We know that, and so do we. But you remember to respect each other when it comes to dance music. Judge Jules respects Yoji Biomehanika, Garry Shepherd respects Apek, Pete Tong respect Cedric Gervais, hardstyle shufflers respect old skool shufflers, and the sFx crew respect the 7 Sparks crew, and so do you. You may not like the CDJ, but you must respect it for what it is. The CDJ is the device that makes me turn to vinyl turntables you know. It's not like the CDJ is going to replace the vinyl, and it will never be. So can you please just fuck off 90sHouseTunes and get a life please?

3.Breaking News: Scientology has reached Malaysia, and so is Project Chanology.

Now, we all remember the Church of Scientology as a religion that turned Tom Cruise into a madman, killed Lisa McPherson and caused BBC journalist Jon Sweeney to go insane. Recently, i have just found out that the Church has established an office here under the name "Applied Scholastics Institute". it has been secretly established here since 2001 and has been recruiting Malaysians by numbers. It's located in Brickfields and i don't know how they will influence Malaysians.

And here comes Anonymous. Anonymous, aka Project Chanology is an anti-Church of Scientology organisation that seeks to give Scientology members aka Thetans the right to think and also protest outside the Church's offices to seek apology from the church rgarding the deaths of Lisa McPherson, along with crimes the church of Scientology has committed. Now their protests are really interesting, in a flash mob manner. They usually wear Guy Fawkes masks to remain "Anonymous", and they kept on singing Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up repeatedly. They're currently having a worldwide protest today except in Malaysia, and they are also planning to hold a protest here in Malaysia outside the Scientology-run Brickfields office when the next Worldwide protest comes.
