Hello there, fellow Twilight hater! I find ...YESH!! Hello there, fellow Twilight hater!

I find it really really over rated and my gawd, you wouldn't believe the screaming in the cinema my boyfriend and I had to put up with EVERY DAMN TIME Edward or his foster father showed on screen.Ashleighhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11588096582980872733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3411964956127639955.post-90551171895093699202008-11-25T09:32:00.000-08:002008-11-25T09:32:00.000-08:00Oh, I'd hardly flame you, fellow Twilight-disser! ...Oh, I'd hardly flame you, fellow Twilight-disser! It deserves every bit of criticism re: its writing and characterisation, IMHO.

So excuse me while I start a mini-rant. :P

It is pretty much, as you've described, just a Harlequin romance aimed at the young female teenage demographic, sans the sex. With it horrible articulation, over-exaggerated descriptions, the usage of every single damned word in the Thesaurus and all those countless synonyms of the word 'beautiful' when it comes to describing Edward... it's a disgrace to teen literature.

There is completely no plot. Well, towards the end, a HINT of a plot emerges. But prior to that? It's only senseless mooning over a pretty boy and the depiction of a girl's really shallow, senseless thoughts about this sparkly boy whom she is totally in love with because he's so pretty, dontchaknow.

I find it disturbing that a piece of badly written fanfiction (that's all it is, really!) such like this, with the two leads being a Mary Sue AND a Gary Stu, respectively - has garnered so much attention worldwide, and even spawned a movie and an obsessive female following.

It's rather dangerous, because the rest of the books in the series advocate and support emotionally abusive relationships, and seem to encourage and indirectly send this message to young girls on how their lives are over if that pretty boy in class doesn't notice them or if he's gone from their life. It's.. you know, their cue to fall into a coma/flop and go catatonic/start committing suicide, etc.

And yet, girls everywhere are holding it and swooning over the perfection of its protagonist and think he's THE one guy they would all love to end up with. He's so handsome, romantic, and all that jazz. I digress! He's nothing but a cardboard character that looks pretty - he's got no semblance of a personality or characterisation in any way.

Sorry for going off a bit there, but I just wanted to applaud a fellow blogger on seeing past the, ahem, sparkliness of Twilight and seeing it as it is - a lame excuse of a book that doesn't deserve all this hype. :) So, kudos to you!

While I'm at it, I salute your post on how Homophobia Must End, as well. It's very rare to find tolerant Muslim boys such as yourself - most tend to threaten the gays and lesbians with violence and murder ("Aku akan carik ko dan bunuh korang sumer cam babi, tautak!? Korang sumer abnormal! Jahanam lah korang!"). Cheers, mate.琴 Kimmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04383475539917284562noreply@blogger.com
